This is by far one of the most interesting discussions I have read in a long time. I have a question, and it is one I have been thinking about for a while now. What if I started a watch company, and farmed out my work to Japan, China, or somewhere overseas--printed "Swiss Made" on my dials, printed COSC type documents to ship with my watches. How would anyone know they are not Swiss Made? How would anyone know the COSC paper are fake? I'm not saying this is being done, but I am curious to how anyone would know the difference.

Good question, craig and glad to see you posting with us.
I will take a guess here that the Federation might get word that you are doing this and take legal action against you. They take this stuff seriously and would know that your bogus company did not submit and receive COSC certification. How successful they would be remains to be seen.
Just publicizing that fact that you are in violation of their rules would be enough to discredit your company. However, there will probably be many people who wouldn't care if you had good pricing on decent watches.
Anyone else have an opinion on this?

LOL, koi. I see you have pondered this very question.
bonatto, in that case I would sell SWISS CHEEEEEEEESE!. ;D
On a related note, it appears that this is the 95th post for this thread. After a few bumps in the road here, it appears as if we are on our way to our second 100 post thread in the past several months. Way to go guys. This kind of effort means that your admins here don't have to do (yawn) much to keep you all entertained. And thanks for bringing this thread back on topic.

I can see now see how Eyal slips one by now. The Federation is too caught up in counting the holes in the Swiss Cheese watches to make sure they are authentic. I for one, would be insulted if they tried to pawn off Baby Swiss as the real thing because although it says "Swiss" in the name, it is not the same quality. ;D

Thank you! We now return to our regularly scheduled program.
Ah yes, Swiss Made vs. Swiss Maid vs. Swiss Chocolate vs. Swiss Miss vs...
I think the Federation needs to update their language and fast. This multinational manufacturing is starting to put a dent in their business.
As of a year or two, the Russian watch sector and the Chinese have gained some ground. Vostok Europe has been selling very well and production from China seems to be as strong as ever. As I've said before, most of the world doesn't care about quality timepieces. They want a $10 watch that "keeps just as good time as your fancy schmancy Rolex."
The Swiss need to keep up their reputation or they'll be in big trouble.

MacDaddy, You rascal! foghorn, Oh my, where did you find that? The manufacturer must have seen some of boskoe's fotografy using foodstuffs and got the idea from him. I wonder if it is edible, sans battery of course.

SWISS and SWISS MADE are synonymous.
