Hi guys - Andy here from Derby in the UK.
Firstly what a great site - have learned so much in the last 2 1/2 hours from the articles and forum.
I have my heart set on the 2254.50 SMP - Its a present to myself after (finally) passing my chartered accountancy exams. After weeks of browsing last weekend I made the never-go-back step of trying one for size. It seemed even better on than in the window!!
According to the Omega website there are 3 AD's where I live. The RRP here in the UK is £1200. As 2 of the AD's here are large chains I am guessing they won't offer any discount. The third is is a small independent so I am planning to ask for a discount there.
I am in the US in April (NYC) - the common belief in the UKis that the US is generally cheaper and what with the exchange rate being so good (for us buying) i was wondering what you guys would expect I should pick one up for in the US? If the difference is not too steep I might just get impatient and buy one this weekend!!
Great to see you here. Derbyshire is a particular favourite county of mine.
Anyway it's always worth asking on the premise that if you don't ask, you don't get. There is a favourite AD among forum members so do watch out for a PM from me. You should be able to get something upwards of 10% at a UK AD, possibly more. The chain of ADs called Goldsmiths operate a scheme where Tesco vouchers may be exchanged at a rate of 4x their face value. The discount is deducted from MSRP of course.
Hope you'll have an opportunity to have a look around here and let's talk soon
Hey Andy. You can't go wrong with the 2254.50 ! I swear that mine has not left my wrist since I bought it. I also like the idea of treating yourself to it as a present. I am painting my new house here and have already decided to treat myself to a present as well once it is completed and I have saved a ton of $$$ in the process...now I just have to decide if it'll be a PO on a rubber strap or a Speedy...choices, choices! Anywho, best of luck and make sure you post a pic once you get it...here are a few shots of mine...cheers!
Personally I like the black bezel and dial better than the blue - just seems to add to that classic feel. I am planning to have this as an everyday watch and, at the moment at least, it will be my only high-end watch.
I know purists probably wouldn't agree but I think it goes just as well with a suit at work as it does with casual clothes. Off to the local AD to have another wear tonight with suit on to test my theory!
Hi Andy. Zin beat me to recommending the Tesco's Clubcard vouchers.
I bought my SMP using the vouchers and got a hefty price off the £1200. I also had some other help through family and some bonus from work. Unless you have some vouchers already saved up, it may take some time to save the amount to get a decent discount. But look into it, it's worth it, even for the other offers they have available.
I bought the 2531.80, it's blue brother, and I can honestly say they are both great looking watches and will provide you with endless amount of smiles each time you tell the time.
Chuck Norris doesn't wear a watch, HE decides what time it is!
Just rang an AD in Nottingham not too far from me to enquire about the 2254.50 in stock.
When I hinted at discount he commented about how these are getting rarer and that he "might be able to do something but not too much". I am sure that AD's all have their own view on the best price/demand but it doesn't suggest I will get too much discount in the UK.
