For me, it was seeing a really cool watch that a guy had on that I flew with in the Army. I asked him what it was and he showed it to me. I will never forget looking at the pepsi bezel and the Rolex crown and name. From that moment on, I knew I had to have one.
The rest is history......................

I was turned on to the brand while some family members were visiting from India in 1997. My sister was getting married, and one of our guests said she would like to buy a Rolex for her husband back in India. I went with them to the shop and was amazed - hooked ever since. Hmmm, 1997, so I would have been 15 years old...... My obsession has only grown to be this strong over the past 18 - 24 months. But, I've had a Swiss Watch (Omega Bond SMP) for the past ~8 years. Always appreciated the craftsmanship of a Certified Swiss Chronometer.

Without even knowing what it was, i knew somewhere deep inside that the watch Sean Connery wore as James Bond was a bit special. It took me until the tender age of 16 to actually get my hands on a Rolex catalogue, and nearly another 16 years to actually get one! My passion now has meaning as a Rolex owner, i love all 3 of my watches ( Sub, SD, Air-King) and can't conceive of ever falling out of love with them. :-)

My father loved Rolex and had a couple. They were always very special to him and still are. I grew up trying them on and appreciating them. Back then (>15 years ago) an automatic mechanical was a pretty rare thing to see. The fact that they kept working without a battery thrilled me. They were also tough. Rolex never disappointed me.
Its too bad they have become so expensive. I know I'll get flamed for it, but in my mind Rolex makes the ultimate beater. Everyone should own a SS DJ just to wear without worry. I'm not talking about abusing the watch, but they are so tough and dependable you can just leave it on all the time and live your life. I thought and still think they are amazing watches.

Back in 1984 (I was 16) there were lots of copies of the Sub, DD and DJ's around and I thought they were great looking watches, but refused to buy a copy as i wanted the real deal. I promissed myself that one day I would have one but couldn't justify the cost for my 21st or 30th Birthday. I turn 40 in Feb 2008 and have just purchased the SD as an early Birthday present to myself Not sure what to get for my 41st, 42nd Birthday etc..perhaps the GMT-C or the milgauss GV (with the green crystal) - ;D ;D ;D I wish

For me, it was during a bank heist. We knocked off some safety deposit boxes and found out how much they were worth. ;D
Ok, seriously.............it was from family members. Alhtough none do own a Rolex, they own other Swiss brands (Ebel, Cartier, JLC, etc.). I always found it fascinating how a non-quartz watch could keep time, especially now, since my LV is 2 - 2.5 seconds fast a day after comparing it to my digital watch that synches with Colorado. Amazing!

Well, my uncle had a few of them laying on a table.... I checked them out and was stunned by the design of a Rolex case.... I started to read articles about Rolex and Omega and joined forums like our beloved WTF. Next step was buying one and I decided that this Submariner was made for me...

I just started getting interested in watches this year. I had heard of the Rolex brand, but couldn't have told you anything about them. The first one I saw was a TT Datejust, and I fell in love with it. I bought one, and then I saw the Submariner; then the Yachtmaster; then the Daytona. I haven't purchased these three yet, but they are all on my "to do" list for the future.

Must have been back in the early 60s. My dad bought a Rolex AirKing for my oldest brother (who begged him to get him one) on one trip to Switzerland. I think Rolex prices were quite reasonable at that time so he got it. My dad passed away before I got my chance.
My second discovery was my wife's family, who are all into nice watches. My father-in-law had several nice ones including a couple of Rolexes, a PP and others. All of my other brothers-in-law are into Rolexes and other fine watches as well.

I'm sort of a precision freak, I have an obsession with craftsmanship and accuracy, so technically I should probably be wearing a Japanese digital with an atomic-sync but there is no workmanship in a digital.
I bought my first swiss movement watch last year, a seamaster 2254.50. I love it, everything about it is beautiful. last month I bought an oris titanium diver to wear everyday, both of these watches are stunning and I'm proud to own them, but...
All anyone in my position has to do is put a Rolex on once and then you (I) are hooked. a Rolex is an Omega times 3 in my humble opinion and an oris times 4. It's sexy, it's accurate, flashy but understated. Its class, elegance, sophistication and regal tradition all packaged in a metal case, there is no other

For me, I got impressed with swiss watches when I was given a Sicura when a family member died. While I realize Sicura may not be worth much money, the watch meant the world to me, because he had saved up for months to get it, and it was presented to me upon his death. If I had to give up my LV or the Sicura, I would keep the Sicura based off sentimental reasons.
