Where are all the Japanese watch lovers?

I know there are millions of us out there, let's let our voices be heard! I know everyone is fascinated with the Swiss this and that, but the Japanese know their watches too and they don't charge an arm and a leg for their technology which is probably every bit as good or better than the Swiss.

I agree Mark. I have about 30 watches now, the vast majority are Japanese. Some have Swiss Movements, but asmbled I think in Japan. I think in this modern time the Japanese watches are equal to the Swiss, I hope I am not stirring up too big a bag of worms by saying this. I have had two Rolexes in my life, none of which kept as good a time as a Citizen or a Seiko. I would rather spend my money on many watches instead of sinking thousands of dollars in one. Works for me!!

I love my OM. Gets lots of wear because of the outstanding lume. Also love my atomic solar G-Shock, although I don't wear it much because I'm not much for digitals, but all it can do, for $60 from Costco, amazes me.

I've got numerous Seiko divers in 6309, 7002, and 7S26 calibres, and a Black Monster. Seikos are about my favorite watches next to my Omegas. Here's my 28 year old 6309 on a beefy Italian Chrono bracelet:

this is my virgin post on this subforum, I visit the Invicta side most often. I own a Seiko quartz from 1979 - still running fine, a Seiko OM, a Invicta 2687 with the Miyota 21J, Citizen Eco Drive Titanium, Citizen Calibre 8651 Moon Phase on leather, and 2 Orient's on order.

So you can see I have some interest in Japanese Horology, the rest of my collection are swiss made, swiss movement watches.

One question: how accurate are the Orient automatic movements compared to the Seiko 7S26 or the Miyota 8205/8215 movements? From my experience the Miyota is far more accurate than the Seiko and I am curious to see how the Orient compares.

Any comments on Orient mechanicals?

No comment on the Orients though I've admired them from afar.

How do you like your Citizen Calibre? That's a great looking watch?

I had to have the Citizen 8651, the dial and all those details...I was in love!

Now that I have it, I can report that it's sort of hard to tell the actual time with all the stuff happening on that dial. If church is boring, it gives me something to look at, and my wife won't complain. ;D

The strap is a black leather - croco look deal, it has the most subtle graining and that's not a complement from me. I will replace the strap with a nice REAL CROCODILE and be done with it. It needs a 21mm strap so this limits my choices, I may just go and squeeze in a 22mm and then I can get almost anything I want online. Upside is that Citizen provides a very nice double fold deployant in SS.

If I had to spend my money again, I would prefer a watch that dumps the month of year display for larger moonphase and day & date. Overall this watch is very well made and finished, very comfy, and large too!
The strap looks like it could fit up to a 9.5" wrist, leaves me at 7.38" looking like a wee little kiddie. Overall a classy watch with lots of visual interest.

I have a couple of Orients, Seikos, and one or two Citizens (miyota)
Once regulated, I find them roughly the same.

John, Do you want an original? Or, maybe a modded one? They are very commonly sold on the Seiko Citizen forum (SCTF) and also on ebay. You just have to be careful as there are a lot of basterdized 6309s out there and beaters that are abusesd. If you'd like me to try and locate one for you just email me and I'll try to help out. They're great watches and real brutes on the wrist. I have several and the one pictured is 28 years old and only been serviced once! And, that was about 20 years ago. Still runs at less than +20 sec/day. This and the 6105 (older yet) are the most sought after divers for the Seiko collector.

Gosh, that's awfully nice of you to offer to help. Yea, I've seen quite a few come up on PMWF, S/C forum, eBay, etc...I just haven't pulled the trigger. I sort of figure that I'd have to get a different bracelet...seems like the models I look at have what appears to be folded link style bracelets....or quasi-jubilee bracelets...
