I popped the hood today on my 1963 Chinese Air Force chronograph reissue and took a few pics with my new "micro" camera: a 7.1 MP Canon SD1000 Digital Elph. The 17-jewel manual chrono movement is a Chinese update of the old Valjoux 22, which the Chinese purchased from Valjoux back in the 1950s. Here's the best of the bunch:

Great shot! I recently bought the SD1000, and i'm very pleased with it (even though it is a simple point-and-shot with limited opportunities for camera settings => especially i'm missing a "manual" focus function)

great shot Tom thats not the camera you normally use , is it? been thinking of a small (micro) point and shoot that i can get an underwater housing for, considering the SD800, 850, 900, 1000. and G7 any thoughts? thanks, diver88 ;D ;D ;D

I think Canon makes an underwater accessory for the SD1000. All my past photos were taken with a 5.0 MP Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 like this one. So far the photos I've taken with the tiny Canon have been much clearer.

I think the SD1000 would be a fine choice for this. Considering the price (i got it at about USD 220), it is a very decent camera. Check out www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/These were taken by my SD1000 - no tripod used

thanks Tom, i didn't see anything at all wrong with your previous pics have you had the SD1000 for a while or is it new? the reviews i've seen seem to put the 800, 850, 900, and the 1000 all in the same comparisons. a housng is available for all of those including the G7, i'm relatively sure. Mr CopyCat, i originally decided to get the G7 for all around, but relegated that camera to just carry around status to buy a DSLR. just got IT yesterday, played with it last night and realize i have a LOT to learn. colors and overall pic quality seems better than my previous shooter, but the closeups are not quite as good, yet. i don't think i have everything just right yet. i will probably get a canon point and shoot for just carry arount for sure, just which one? ? thanks guys, diver88 ;D

have you had the SD1000 for a while or is it new? I just bought my SD1000 a couple weeks ago, and I'm loving it - - fantastic clarity and macro capability. Here's one more shot with the Canon:
