Hey Guys
I noticed in anudder place that a reliable seller known to those of us who observe movements of desirable timepieces suffered a loss recently in respect of an old Speedy Pro he was shipping to a buyer. The box in which it was shipped had apparently been " broken into ".
It got me wondering if any of us here have suffered a loss in transit and if so, were you covered for the full amount insured? Insurance companies have a notoriety in cutting back on whatever they can when having to meet a claim be it an excess that you have to bear and/or valuing down the size of a loss.
The one and only occasion when I had to make a claim against the postal services was years back, indeed when Elvis was still with us. The postal service tried their best to dance out of it but I wasn't taking no for an answer. They paid up in the end though.
How about you pals? Ever had an experience of claiming for a loss or damage in transit? What was the eventual outcome and was it easy for you to pursue your claim?
Talk soon pals
and
Y'all have a nice weekend now ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

Many years ago, a friend of mine I did business with owed me a considerable sum. For over a year he assured me that the check (sent from Italy) had been put in the mail.
One day I was contacted by a US Postal Service agent, who hand delivered me a torn open envelope with my check in it. It seems that an airline service crew doing routine maintainence on a hatch door on a plane had found it (along with numerous other opened mails) stuffed behind the door.
I was informed that a sting operation was currently put in place to catch the crew who was opening mails and looking for cash or other goods.
So, I guess you just never know...

Forunately I have only had to file claims for minor car accidents. It is amazing however, even when you are at 0% fault, how much they try to short change someone.

I have to say that the only car claims I've made were via my previous insurance company and while initially they wanted to use their own garages to mend my broken heart ( read car ) I wasn't having it since a third party garage would not be able to maintain the paint warranty so they relented. However, a claim for a damaged Apple Powerbook though agreed was never settled as the insurance company went bust The only worse industry I know ( I'm sure there would be others too if I think about it ) are estate agents in these isles. They are the pits of the world, blood suckers with no conscience who bleed everyone dry. there, I've got that off my chest ;D ;D - now on to confession ;D ;D Be well amigos ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

Yes, I have. I bought a $150 watch that carried a two year warranty and somewhere near the 18 month mark the bracelet fell apart. I called and directions were given on how to send it in. after several months of not seeing the watch return I called and the company said the watch had been sent back within a few short weeks so I contacted the U S postal service . I had insured the watch for $200 just to make sure I was covered and come to find out they wanted the original receipt showing exactly what it had cost. I had sent that in (foolishly) with the watch for warranty service so I did not have the receipt at all. I actually had to get the company to write a letter to the USPS stating what the original MSRP was ($150) and that is all they would pay (6mos later) and would not pay for the sales tax or the shipping where they lost the package. My argument at that point fell on deaf ears but I felt it was more than fair that if they were replacing my watch, I paid originally and would have to pay for sales tax again . also I didn't think it was fair to charge $25 + insurance for round trip shipping and not get the service (I didn't get it back) and not get the shipping price returned, I understand the insurance. well, thats my horror story... diver88
