If we all want to be technical and totally purist, only 12 Omega Speedmaster Professional watches have ever made it to the surface of the moon. And they were c321 only. But... because they UPGRADED the movements doesn't mean they are less of the "Moonwatch" model. Everything else is the same. They also upgraded the Lunar Modules and Space Suits as they went along. That doesn't mean the Lunar Modules at NASA, the Johnson space center, Smithsonian and other museums are any less of a Lunar Module because they weren't the same configuration as the older ones. The cal. (1)861 is not an upgrade of the cal. 321, it is a completely different design. (Plus there were a number of minor changes to the case, crown and pushers.) If the "display lunar modules" were gutted and different control panels, computers and engines installed with only the outside shell remaining, could anyone claim them to be the lunar modules used on Apollo? IMHO Bro John The c321 was not completely gutted in the way your " new" module was described. The main and general appearance remains the same and yes there were changes to the movement but not all the parts were changed, were they? I really don't see why purists should have a need to be so elitist about their c321s. After all, they are part of the same family. The c321s happen to be more of the immediate family but Speedy Pros and Moonwatches all the same. Have a good weekend now ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

Well, this is where purists and non-purists have a different opinion. Nothing wrong with that. If we all here would share the same opinion and have the same taste in watches, it would be a rather dull place here... ;D ;D The Omega Speedmaster is world wide known as ''The Moonwatch'', so yes modern Speedies too are considdered as Moonwatches.... It's safe to say that Omega was not the only watch that made it to the Moon, so ''the one and only'' is not completely true..

I think we've covered all that but it seems purists like having the last say. Possibly nothing wrong with that after all since someone has to as we can't spend all our time on this thread Be well pal ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

OK, guys, there is one thing upon which we can all agree: The Omega Speedmaster Professional (regardless of movement or configuration) is a classic timepiece that we love and cherish. As for being a purist, having a display back on my moon watch negates that premise. Fr. John+

Well done GJ, well done!
Now if you would only restore the official case back on that watch, you'd be....
P U R E[/color]
That would be my ultimate grail. A c321 Speedy with a JB Champion bracelet.
THAT'S THE DEAL!!!
But I wouldn't want to wear it everyday. I wouldn't want to wear out the movement, that's why I opted on a brand new model.

Here's my take on "Moon Watch"...
The Cal 321 went through the testing that no other watch at the time could pass.
Have the newer movements been put through the same tests, to ensure they were up to the task, or has Omega and/or NASA just accepted the "Speedmaster Professional" as being up to the task with no testing as changes to the movement are made?
Just personal curiosity on this note...
