Well I took my first plunge into quality watches. I bought a 2254.50.00 after reading the reviews written by John H. I think his superb photography sold me. I had never even seen or tried on Omega watch and bought mine completely "in the blind." I am very, very happy with my purchase. I bought my SMP from authenticwatches.com and have nothinig but good things to say about their service. I know mine is a "grey market" watch, but I simply could not afford one from an authorized dealer.

Have you tested the accuracy at this point? Welcome to the Seamaster club! ;D John

Oh yea!....I love the watch. I have been testing its accuracy against NIST atomic clock and it seems it is -1 sec/day. I was expecting more deviation, but I have tested it repeatedly with the same result. Oh, I got it towards the end of September. I ordered it around 5:00p Houston time and it came the next day promptly and 9:00 exactly. I cant say enough about authenticwatches.com. The saleswoman went out of her way to get it to me quickly because I was leaving town the following day. I did have to have it sized at a local jeweler. One problem I have is that I have removed an uneven number of links from each side of the bracelet. I have two fullsize removeable links on one side and just one full size on the other and this causes the watch to fall slightly off center on my wrist. I think I have solved this problem. I found a link to Otto Frei company that sells half-links. I will remove one full size link and replace it evenly with two half-links(the one that came one the watch and the new one I ordered) This should solve the uneven problem. What you think? I don't know if anyone has done this but I assume it should work. I bought this watch to wear daily. One of the reasons I did not buy the Rolex. I figured with the Rolex I would be paranoid about getting it scratched. I am not going to lie. I have had the watch barely a week and, like Holbrook said would happen, mine already has numerous scratches on the clasp. I dont care, like I said it is for daily wear. I have never owned a "quality" watch, but I will admit that a good time piece puts a bounce in your step

Next time you're at the grocery store, just buy some of the yellow and green kitchen pads (NOT Brilllo steel wool pads). Take the rough side of the sponge and rub it slowly in ONE direction against the clasp for a few seconds. You'll be amazed that when you're done, the clasp will look brand new! John

The black / black smp is one hell of a classy watch. Had one and traded it, now regret it. Never let it go.

MY first Omega thanks to Holbrook as well! I just acquired my first Omega, a black/black SMP on Wednesday and I love it!! I haven't spent too much time with it yet but I will get into it over the weekend. All indications are that I made the right choice and that it will see more wrist time the my Breitling Superocean. You were right, John! Thanks Again!! Kevin

You bet, John! I wore it over the weekend and it is so comfortable compared to the Breitling SOP. Not nearly as thick but just as wide. Love it! Kevin

Did I hear my name?
I won't totally disagree that the SMP might be a little more comfortable, but the bracelet isn't nearly as adjustable as the Breitling since there is no fine adjustment. I think the SMP is a lighter watch thought and probably does fit under a shirt cuff a little better since its not as tall. I think the SOP is a heck of a lot tougher though with its all brushed finish. The first SMP I had had a scratch on the bezel pretty quickly. The SOP is built more like a tank.

He took the bait! ;D I think I'll finally be able to start work on that SD vs. SOP vs. Seamaster review I've been wanting to do. I don't know that I can buy that the SOP is "a heck of a lot" tougher. Certainly the brushed finish will be less prone to show scratches, and it is more water resistant. Perhaps the SOP is a better choice if you, say work in a hospital and need a daily beater... John

It is good for say, working in a hospital and definitely can function well as a beater.

Well, it is one as they say! Let's get them together (SMP, SOP & SD) and see how they do head to head! I like the comfort of the SMP but love the boldness of the SOP. I have no experience with the SD but if it is close to the Sub, I think the Sub is a blend of the two as far as comfort goes. You can't go wrong with any of those three though! Kevin
