No 57 - September 4 2007 OMEGA SPEEDMASTER PROFESSIONAL APOLLO XI 35TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
Whilst every prestige watch manufacturer looks forward to celebrating an anniversary of one of its timepieces, only Omega can celebrate an anniversary that made one of its watches a legend. On 20 July 2004, it was 35 years since mankind took its first steps on the moon. It was the expertise that went in to creating the Speedmaster and its’ tested reliability that led to its’ selection for manned spaceflight missions in the first place and the Speedmaster Professional Chronograph remains as popular today as ever, with ardent fans, enthusiasts and collectors. Though the Speedmaster was first launched in 1957, relatively few changes have been made to its design or its movement over the years. After all, it would almost be foolhardy to abandon the highly robust case design, totally functional dial and unbeatably reliable movement that were instrumental in helping the Speedmaster become the only chronograph to pass the most stringent tests ever devised for a watch by NASA. Nevertheless, the special edition for the 35th anniversary of the moon landing distinguishes itself in its own original manner with a unique sapphire crystal case back on which the Apollo 11 mission patch is glazed in colour. The case-back ring bears the special inscription "Apollo 11 35th anniversary Limited Edition" as well as the limited-edition number (0001/3500). The limited-edition status is also confirmed by a subtle inscription below the Omega Speedmaster Professional name on the dial, mentioning merely the date of the Apollo 11 landing "July 20, 1969" in red. The 35th anniversary Speedmaster has a silver dial with applied hour markers with luminous dots and contrasting black counters for the continuous small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counters. It has the typical Speedmaster stainless-steel bezel with black aluminium ring bearing the tachymeter scale, rhodium-plated hands with SuperLuminova and stainless-steel bracelet with safety clasp. The movement is the classic Omega hand-winding chronograph calibre 1861, which has a 45-hour power reserve. It is a direct descendant of the original 321 and 861 calibres used in the very first Speedmasters and as such shares the same reliability and resistance that helped its predecessors withstand temperature fluctuations of over 100°C, shocks of 40g, acceleration of 16g and vibrations of between 5 and 2000 Hz during the NASA tests. In commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the first lunar landing, Omega produced a strictly limited series of 3500 individually numbered Speedmasters bearing the Apollo 11 insignia. As mankind today explores even more distant horizons, with NASA leading the quests, these watches serve as a reminder of Omega's long-standing association with space exploration - an association that the brand will continue with the quest to return to the moon and, eventually, travel onwards to Mars.

No 59 - September 7 2007 OMEGA DE VILLE BYZANTIUM
The OMEGA De Ville Byzantium launched in July 2004 represented a striking new design that was symbolic of Omega’s global presence, which spans numerous regions and cultures. The name had been specifically chosen for its association with the one city that has through the ages been the meeting point of East and West: known today as Istanbul, it was previously called Constantinople and further back in history, the city of Byzantium. Recent trends in watchmaking focussed on the dial, with the latest fashions featuring oversized or multicoloured numbers. Omega’s subtle take on this approach may be seen in the De Ville Byzantium, which in addition to its strikingly unique dial also set itself apart from other Omega models as the first gents’ watch in the standard international collection to have a square case, the design of which recalls the brand’s first full calendar complication watch, the Cosmic, which was first introduced in 1948. The significance of the name Byzantium is seen on what appears at first sight to be a standard black dial. A closer look, however, reveals an intriguing combination of Roman and Arabic numerals – a fusion of East and West if you like and a successful blend of classic and modern characteristics. The time is indicated by the same classic diamond-polished and facetted Alpha hands found on Omega’s high-end De Ville Co-Axial models, which have luminous Super Luminova inserts for superb low-light and night-time legibility. The square case of the Byzantium which was in stainless-steel measures 33.4 mm by 33.4 mm and has a case back fixed with screws to ensure water resistance to 50 metres / 167 feet. The most distinctive touch is undoubtedly provided by the facetted triangular lugs with contrasting brushed and polished faces, which also serve an important function as the attachments for the black alligator leather strap with stainless-steel foldover clasp. A plain polished stainless-steel bezel was deemed as the perfect complement to the uncluttered dial, with a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside completing the high-quality aspect of this timepiece. The De Ville medallion stamped on to the case back depicts the God of Time, Chronos, and recalls the long line of prestige timepieces in the De Ville collection, which is over 30 years old. Behind the Byzantium’s multicultural dial is a movement that is unique in the world of mechanical watchmaking: the Omega calibre 2500C. This self-winding movement combines Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement technology with the Omega free sprung-balance without index to offer improved long-term accuracy and reliability. This unique movement with its’ luxurious rhodium-plated finish with Geneva wave décor, circular graining and gold-plated engravings – offers a power reserve of 48 hours and has official chronometer certification from the Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The De Ville Byzantium is also available as a stunning jewellery piece in stainless steel with a white mother-of-pearl dial, Roman and Arabic numerals set with a total of 109 diamonds, a ruby cabochon set on the crown and a claret alligator leather strap.

No 60 - September 12 2007 OMEGA SPEEDMASTER RATTRAPANTE CO-AXIAL
Announced at Baselworld in 2006, the Speedmaster Rattrapante Co-Axial is a blend sports styling evoking the original looks of OMEGA’s models of the 1950’s and featuring useful timing functions. Hence it boasts classic and distinctive design characteristics in its’ curved horns and round polished push-buttons. When you then add these to the column wheel chronograph with vertical coupling function, the Co-Axial escapement and a COSC certificate, this striking watch becomes a precision time keeper with all the attractive nuances of a Speedmaster. In using one watch to record two or more events, the Rattrapante (or split-seconds) which was first introduced in 1930, assists in the elimination of discrepancies between two chronographs in sports timing. In a similar manner, the column wheel introduced in 1898 into a pocket watch, allows precision start, stop and reset functions of the multiple hands of the chronograph. Therefore sports enthusiasts today can time laps or two events without resorting to a second timekeeper while the tachymeter scale allows average speeds to be calculated over a set distance. In addition, the red Pulsometer scale on the dial serves to take pulse readings. This unique and very capable timepiece is driven by the self-winding Omega calibre 3612. The Co-Axial escapement, technology that is exclusive to Omega, represents one of the most important advances in watchmaking over the last 250 years and is now being introduced into the Speedmaster Broad Arrow range. The Co-Axial escapement considerably reduces friction in the heart of the watch mechanism and offers improved long-term reliability and accuracy. Performance is further improved by a free-sprung balance that allows for more precise adjustments of the watch. The watch has a 52-hour power-reserve and the white rhodium-plated movement is finished to luxury standards with special waves, circular-graining and gold plated engraving. The screws and the column-wheel components are made of blued-steel and the movement is visible behind the sapphire crystal case back. Two versions of the dial are available, with black counters against a silver dial and vice versa. Needless to say, both allow for easy reading of both the chronograph and time functions. The red Pulsometer scale running around the outside of the dial provides another useful function and the fixed brushed stainless steel bezel incorporates an engraved tachymeter scale. Luminous, facetted and diamond-polished Broad Arrow hour and minute hands make for good visibility while the red tip of the split-seconds hand facilitate precise readings to 1/8th of a second. The date window is positioned at 6 o’clock and the Omega logo and hour markers are applied to the dial. The polished and brushed stainless steel case which incorporates a watertight double-gasket crown has a diameter of 44.25 mm and is water resistant to 100m/330 ft. The domed and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective treatment on the inside. A third push-button at 10 o’clock activates the split second function. The Speedmaster Rattrapante Co-Axial is available on either a satin finished stainless steel bracelet with a safety clasp or on a brown over stitched calfskin strap with a fold over stainless steel clasp.

No 63 - September 17 2007 OMEGA DE VILLE ST. MORITZ CHRONOGRAPH
OMEGA and the prestigious resort of St. Moritz both share a reputation as pioneers. St. Moritz was the first place in Switzerland to establish a Tourist Office and has over the years built up an enviable reputation as one of the world’s foremost alpine resorts. In addition to being home to Switzerland’s first ski school, St. Moritz is also the birthplace of the sport of bobsleigh and was the first location on the European continent to hold a curling match. The resort’s keen interest in establishing winter sports at the turn of the century provided the experience that was crucial to its staging of two winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948 (the only Games to be held on Swiss soil so far) and four alpine skiing World Championships, most recently in 2003. Omega is to watch brands what St. Moritz is to mountain resorts, boasting a similar record of pioneering achievements over its 150-year history. In the split-seconds world of sports timekeeping, the brand symbolised by the Greek letter was the first company to be appointed as official timekeeper for all Olympic disciplines at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932. Since then, Omega has provided the official timekeeping equipment and services for a total of 26 Olympic Games. The 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz were the first at which the brand provided not only the timekeeping equipment but also its own trained personnel as timekeepers. More recently, the watchmaking firm has maintained its links with winter sport in St. Moritz through its sponsorship of the Olympic Bob Run and its role as official timekeeper of all FIBT bobsleigh events. It therefore seems only fitting that a watch be selected to represent the partnership and close association between Omega and St. Moritz and that this should be none other than the Omega De Ville Co-Axial Chronograph. The De Ville is the top of the range in Omega’s collection and is thus the perfect timepiece to symbolize one of the world’s most exclusive mountain resorts. The De Ville St. Moritz chronograph uses Omega’s top-of-the-range chronograph movement, the calibre 3313, which combines Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial Escapement and free sprung-balance with a column-wheel chronograph mechanism. Column-wheel chronographs are widely recognised as the finest chronograph movements available, yet they remain highly exclusive, since very few manufacturers are capable of producing this sophisticated mechanism. The calibre 3313 has an intricate finish of circular graining, Geneva wave decor, rhodium-plated surfaces and gold-plated engravings in company with a blued-steel centre screw, all of which are visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back. The movement’s precision is attested by its chronometer certificate issued by the official Swiss chronometer testing institute (COSC) and it delivers a power reserve of 52 hours. The very specialized movement is housed in the distinctive De Ville case in stainless steel, available with a diameter of 41mm or 35mm, the design of which takes its inspiration from the marque’s classic models of the 1950s. The grooves on the inside of the chronograph pushers that match the design of the crown are typical of the meticulous attention to detail for this model. As befits such a prestigious timepiece, the dial is the epitome of sobriety and clarity, pairing facetted red gold-plated hour markers and hands, with blued steel chronograph hands against a silvered background with an applied Omega symbol and name. The final touch of exclusivity is the St. Moritz logo visible in the 5 o’clock position, which is additionally engraved on the case back. A domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with multi-layer anti-reflective treatment on the inside offers maximum protection for this unique dial. The St. Moritz model comes with a brown alligator leather strap with a stainless steel foldover clasp with pushbuttons. This classic design, blessed with the state of the art in watchmaking technology, is the perfect fit for the St. Moritz trademark. It also signals the start of an exciting new partnership between St. Moritz and Omega that will cover numerous areas in addition to watchmaking, such as sports sponsorship, timekeeping and cultural patronage.

No 64 - September 18 2007 OMEGA SPEEDMASTER APOLLO XV LIMITED EDITION
On March 1, 1965, following two years of rigorous testing, the Omega Speedmaster was chosen by the NASA as the only chronograph to be flight-qualified for manned space missions. It was the only chronograph to successfully complete the American Space Agency’s stringent tests that included exposure to extreme temperatures, vacuums, intense humidity, corrosion, shocks, acceleration, pressure, vibrations and noise. The Omega Speedmaster was officially worn for the first time on the Gemini 3 mission, launched later that month on March 23, 1965 and from then became the standard issue for all American astronauts and was the first watch to be worn during an EVA – Extra Vehicular Activity, outside a spacecraft. The Apollo 15 Space Mission – “Endeavour and Falcon” took place from July 26 to August 7 1971 and was the second longest of all the Apollo space missions, taking 12 days, 17 hours and 12 minutes. It was the first mission on which the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) was used. The vehicle carried scientific instruments for deployment on the Moon and gave the astronauts extended range for exploration. David R. Scott and James B. Irwin covered 27.9 km in the LRV and returned with one of the prize trophies of the Apollo program - a sample of ancient lunar crust named the “Genesis Rock”. There is much in relation to the Omega Speedmaster about which to celebrate. Since its’ original deployment, the Speedmaster has secured a truly illustrious reputation as an invaluable partner in the field of space exploration. To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Apollo 15 mission, Omega produced a Limited Edition model of 1971 timepieces, the year of the mission. This exclusive Moon Watch retains the traditional characteristics of the Speedmaster Professional chronograph with the addition of the Apollo 15 patch etched onto a sapphire crystal on the case back. The design features three stylized birds representing the three astronauts of the Apollo 15 mission - Commander David R. Scott, Alfred M. Worden and James B. Irwin. Engraved on the case back are the words “Apollo 15” and “35th anniversary”, as well as the number of the limited edition and the Omega logo in black. The 1861-calibre chronograph, with its manual-winding movement delivers a power reserve of 48 hours. A highlight of the black dial are the red-gold hour markers and Super Luminova luminous dots matching the red-gold hands which are also coated with Super Luminova. The Speedmaster Professional Apollo 15 has three recessed, two-tone counters: the 12-hour counter at six o’clock, the 30-minute counter at three o’clock and the small seconds counter at nine o’clock. All these have stylish red-gold surrounds that match the other features of the watch. The 18-carat red-gold bezel has a black aluminium ring with a tachymetric scale. The 42 mm diameter case is of polished and brushed stainless steel with 18-carat red gold push buttons and crown. It is water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters/167 feet. The solid-link bracelet with the special Omega safety clasp is made of brushed and polished stainless steel. The Speedmaster Professional Apollo 15 is supplied in an elegant, matt silver wooden gift box lined in black. This striking silver and black box sets off the silver and black features of the watch. The box features the special Apollo 15 patch and the Omega logo in silver.

No 65 - September 19 2007 OMEGA RAILMASTER 49.2MM JEWELLERY
Not your every day watch, this head-turning timepiece is the Omega Railmaster 49.2mm with a definite accent on luxury with its’ coloured mother-of-pearl dial, large diamon hour markers and a ruby cabochon on the crown. A gold disc measuring nearly 5cm in diamater forms the base for the mother-of-pearl dial. I am reliably informed that the cost of this alone exceeds that of most entry-level prestige watches. In place of the triangular hour markers which are found on the standard model, 20 baguette-cur diamonds are used instead for the trapezoid hour markers while a ruby cabochon is set into the winding crown, this being a feature on all of Omegas luxury jewellery pieces. The extra-large Railmaster recalls the very first official railway pocket watches. Indeed the case with its’ contrasting brushed and polished facetted lugs in company with the polished bezel is the same size as a pocket watch and is therefore the largest watch in the current Omega catalog. The movement is a gem in itself. At 16.5 lines ( 37.2mm ) in diameter, this manual-winding calibre 2201 is the largest movement in the Omega collection. It is manually-wound because it is a pocket-watch calibre and is therefore very precise as were the original Omega pocket railway watches. This certified chronometer offers a power reserve of 60 hours. The clarity of the dial can only be appreciated thanks to the large sapphire crystal that has anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Similarly, a sapphire crystal caseback affords a clear view of the finely decorated movement with its’ Geneva waves, circular graining and bevelled ridges. Water resistance is rated at 150 metres, not that you would wish to swim with this priceless timepiece. The stunning and highly decorative Omega Railmaster Jewellery watch is available with either a black or red alligator leather strap with the new twin pushbutton, quick-release deployment clasp.

SPECIAL EDITION - A TALE OF TWO MASTER WATCHES
Before the Railmaster had its’ reincarnation on June 27th 2003, there was a model 2802.52.37 on brown leather with the 2802.52.31 being offered with a black leather strap that bore an uncanny resemblance to the watch launched on Vienna to Prague Orient Express four years ago in the company of several luminaries. Pictures ( Top ) - French model Estelle Lefebure, OMEGA Ambassadors Anna Kournikova and Qi Qi, Russian actress Renata Litvinova, Mariana Alvarado and Katerina Stocesova, Miss Czech Republic and Queen of the World 1998; ( Lower ) - Anna K and Martin Gaisford That model was depicted in a steel case measuring 41mm in diameter, with a screw-in transparent sapphire crystal back and screw-in crown that guaranteed water resistance to 150m. The matt black dial had triangular hour markers and Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, all of which were in luminous Super Luminova. Sound familiar to you? Let me continue if I may. Its’ dial was completed by the OMEGA symbol and name and facetted Dauphine hour and minute hands with luminous inserts. That dial was additionally set off by a simple polished steel bezel, which held in place a domed, scratch-resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Unkown to most of us, the re-incarnated Railmaster actually began life as an “ Aqua Terra without Date ” Everything about it bore more than a likeness to its' eventual form, save for the name on the dial. Its’ powerplant was the same OMEGA calibre 2403 Co-Axial Movement. Finally, on June 27 2003, it had its’ formal christening. The aesthetics of a harmonious design become very evident through the anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal in the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moon Phase. The model 3575.20.00 received a “ Broad Arrow ” treatment with its cream dial nestling in a stainless steel case and distinctive Broad Arrow hands and baton hour markers in blued steel. The Moon Phase display in company with a date hand, also in blued steel is on a sparkling blue disk located at 12 o’clock. Super Luminova inserts are present in the arrowhead hour hand and length of the minute hand with luminuous dots above each of the blued hour markers with the exception of the 12 o'clock marker which also features luminous dots on either side of the blued-steel baton. Fast display correction is achieved by use of the discretely-positioned push buttons at 10 o’clock on the case rim just beneath the 18-carat white gold bezel with tachymetre scale. The stainless steel case which measures 42mm has a screw-in caseback and is water-resistant to 30m. Guaranteeing absolute precision in timekeeping is the thoroughbred manual-winding OMEGA chronograph calibre 1866, complete with rhodium plating with Moon phase display and date hand. It delivers a power reserve of 48 hours. A corrector tool to engage the Moon Phase push buttons is supplied and this decidedly-attractive timepiece was also available with a leather strap, model reference 3875.20.37.

OMEGA SEAMASTER PROFESSIONAL CHRONOGRAPH - THE TRANSAT
As Official Timekeeper and Principal Partner of The Transat 2004, OMEGA star ambassador Anna Kournikova was at Plymouth on May 31, 2004 to give the official start of the race which was to host the largest professional fleet that this gruelling transatlantic yacht race had ever seen.
Having survived a thrilling ride down the Olympic Bobsleigh Run in St. Moritz earlier in the year, Anna’s next challenge on her visit to The Transat Race Village at the Plymouth Yacht Haven, was a unique sailing lesson with fellow Omega ambassador Ellen MacArthur on board an Open 50 class racing yacht. Ellen herself was the Open 60 class winner of the Europe1 NewMan STAR in 2000, as The Transat was then known.
On board HMS Tyne, the Royal Navy vessel that was moored on the official start line for the race where she was ideally placed to watch the last few seconds tick away on the Omega countdown clock, Anna gave the official start as the 40 skippers in the Formula 1 of sailing headed off for their ultimate destination of Boston.
" The Transat 2004 winners and the skippers that set the 24-hour record in the monohull and multihull categories were each presented with special Omega Seamaster Transat watches. Worn by Ellen MacArthur and Dean Barker, the Seamaster divers' watch is the cornerstone of Omega's communication in sailing. Having evolved from over 70 years of experience in producing watches for the extreme ocean environment, the Omega Seamaster is the watch of choice for those who live their life for the sea " www.omegawatches.com
The OMEGA Seamaster Professional Chronograph
is presented in stainless steel with a unidirectional rotating bezel. The bezel ring is in black aluminium on a steel bezel. The large lack dial with prominent luminous hour markers and luminous skeleton hands has chronograph totalisers for 30 minutes at 3 o'clock, 12 hours at 6 o'clock, small seconds at 9 o'clock and a date window at 6 o'clock. Water resistance to a depth of 300m/1000ft is guaranteed by a screw-in crown with O-ring gasket and decompression ring in company with the screw-in case back. A helium escape valve at 10 o'clock is provided for use by professional deep sea divers. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal assists in lending clear and unobscured visibility to the dial. Powered by the OMEGA calibre 3303 self-winding column-wheel chronograph movement which provides a 55-hour power reserve it features a stop-seconds function and OMEGA free sprung-balance and is an officially certified chronometer.
