Seriously speaking what exactly happens when an earthquake is to about to take place? Does the watch say, “Time to take cover”! It sounds pretty neat if it really does work. I suppose one can’t walk around with a seismograph.

This has me perplexed as well. Geologists have difficulty predicting an earthquake, so how can they do this in time to broadcast over the air, and have it received by a watch? Great concept; but, I do not know if science is up to this just yet.
But as science and technology get better, it is only a matter of time before tornados and other natural scenarios can be put over the air for all to "take cover" or winter rider would say.

Has anybody got "Weatherbug" on their computer? I do, and what a cool idea if this could be placed in a wrist watch! Any alerts from floods, thunderstorms, tornado's, wind, hurricanes, civil emergencies... I would imagine that this is how this watch works; it probably gets a signal from some agency. Otherwise, every time you wacked your watch it would declare an earthquake! ;D

This is a debatable topic. The newest versions of spyware detectors (including Spybot) no longer consider or mark Weatherbug as spyware. Yes it is, however, adware as ads are what allow this service to remain free. Pay for the "Pro" version and it will no longer be adware. As stated in one of the links above- Weatherbug is not spyware, however, it is adware. It does not monitor, collect data or 'spy' on its user base, however the program is considered adware since the free version is ad-supported. (The pro-version is not; someone has to pay for the service). AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo mail, Hotmail, the Weather Channel’s desktop weather app and many other programs, by that definition would be considered adware.
Now, back to watches... ;D

I'm not a geologist, but by the time the seismograph picks up the vibrations, it is too late as the earthquake is at hand. Earthquakes travel at hundreds of miles per hour, but radio is the speed of light. If you were 50 or 100 miles away, you might get a few minutes notice. Think about that tsunami in the Indian Ocean a while back that killed 200K people in Indonesia, Thailand, and India. It devastated Indonesia instantly, with Thailand minutes later but it took hours for the wave to get to India and then on to Africa. If you had the watch and it worked, you'd know in advance and head to higher ground. Even a single minute's notice would be enough to get to a door jam, away from glass, or out from under something dangerous. Since something like >60% of the world's population is along the ring of fire, this has a market.

Weather Bug is not a good thing to have. It is Spyware. Do yourself a favor and delete it. Completly..
