Hello everyone, I introduced myself in the Invicta thread. Glad to be here. On topic...... I thought it was pretty cool when I received my O/M in a plain brown box with no paperwork when they were not available in the U.S. Not many people had seen one at that point. I still enjoy showing the Seiko AD guys a dial that does not say Malaysia on it. This is an interesting thread.

i do have a seiko 5, i also have 2 invictas probably made completly in japan. i just don't think they are all that and a bag of chips. but they are great watches and i bought them for the reasons i already posted. its like some people here said before. its why we buy japanese cars. because they are economical. ill never buy a lexus over a benz or a infiniti over a beamer. japanese luxury! it doesnt exist! har har. I would, and I beg to differ! And I did! ;D And I absolutely love it. Rides great, great comfort, I haven't had a moment of a second thought...

Hi,
I have been reading this thread with interest and was hoping someone could let me know the 'secrets' to obtaining a Japan-only watch. I am in the market for a new watch and since I'm interested in all things Japan, the idea of obtaining a watch that is slightly unusual is appealing...
Regards
Dave

Hi Dave. I'll send you a link - from home. Once again, wrong computer. @kw: My Seiko 6R15 Diver is a wonder as I often said and equal - in fact superior - in fit and finish to many of my Swiss watches. I love it. But I'm after six or seven months, I have decided the movement isn't quite equal to ETA's offerings - but the price is SO much less. Light-years ahead of the older Seiko autos (from what I read). Still one of my favorite watches!

I just registered and wanted to know if someone can PM various places where I can find these jap-only pieces.
I really like the 6R15 but the hardlex crystal is somewhat pulling me away. Is there an ultimate bang for the buck automatic with sapphire crystal out there?
Thanks,

@joacosle: I will PM you later. Or you can goggle Mr. H (can't remember his name, but it is mentioned in full earlier in this thread). That is where I bought my 6R15

The info will be much appreciated. One that has caught my eye for it's simplicity and clean lines is the Seiko Spirit, which appears to be available in Japan only. The only thing that lets it down (IMO) is the leather strap.
Showing my lack of knowledge but what doyou call those leather straps that have a clasp arrangement like the metal bracelets. It would be nice to get one of those, but from what I can see, Seiko don't make them. Would you guys recommend (1) changing the strap at all and (2) if so, a suitable clasp-like leather strap?
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for sending the PMs, Kw. As for the 6R15 movement, it's quite accurate. But as I noted when I first got it, the second hand doesn't sweep as smoothly as an ETA - it's somewhere between an ETA and a quartz. It's a minor thing, really, but I'm spoiled. Occassionally, I find myself wishing it would sweep differently. But I still love the watch - and wore it most of yesterday. The lume is absolutely killer. I am always amazed at how much watch it is for so little money (relatively speaking, of course).

Are you sure that it's just not 21,600BPH Vs. 28,800BPH?
