I have been batting about the idea of getting a seiko diver, and I wanted some opinions. I feel as though I should get the monster since I have beed eyeing it for a while, but lately I have been really struck by SKX173. I then thought maybe SKX175, the one with the blue face and red and blue bezel....but 175 on the rubber strap seems to speak to me. I think because the number markers are unique and not another ball and stick configuration...problem is I aready have an 8926, so I would be getting a watch that was very similar. Anyone have any of these?...opinions please Here is a link to the one I am talking about www.princetonwatches.com/shop/SKX173.asp

I almost went for the skx173, or the whatever the one is in the link, but after looking at it at a dealer I decidexd that the monster was much better. If you are buying a seiko and like the look of the monster I would reccomend it, it is great. it feels like a $1000 watch.

Buy what your heart says, but you will probably come back and get the Monster if you didn't the first time....

It's all personal preference....both are great watches for a reasonable price. The monsters were too bulky for my taste so I sold mine....I still have my skx009 and love it.

I been thinking of buying the black monster for a everyday take a licking watch how does the chrystal hold up ?? The crystal holds up pretty well. Remember Hardlex is just a coating so if you hit the crystal just right, it will still scratch. It's tougher than mineral, but my Black Monster had a scratch on the crystal. For the price of a Monster and what you get, they're a great buy.

Here's a link that might help, do a search on "hardlex", there is a fair amount of info available. It's still mineral glass, just a bit harder than most. My experience with it has been positive. It will scratch but not easily. www.seiko-divers.info/scwf/index.php?mod=103&action=0&id=1037842045
