I have had a Seiko Arctura for almost two years probably. Before the watch bug hit me I only had this watch and a Gucci, so I wore it regularly. Since I've been bitten, I've gotten about 5 or 6 watches in the last 4 months and hadn't worn this Seiko in a while. I picked it up yesterday and noticed the watch had stopped. I thought, I guess it needs a new battery when all of a sudden the hands start moving on their own! Not only that it resets itself to the right time!! I'm assuming my watch is not possessed and this is how it's supposed to function. I wish all my automatics would do this!

I think those Kinetics go into a "sleep" mode. After a certain amount of rest, they still keep time but the hands stop. Shake 'em back up and the hands spring back to where they're supposed to be. Kind of a "hibernation".

I don't have my instructions either. It's a cool feature though.

This is still the coolest feature I've seen on a watch. Do all the "turas" do this? I am always now drawn back to this watch just to see if it's run out of juice so I can see it work it's magic. After I finally scrape up the pennies to buy a monster, my next Seiko will have to be an Arctura or Sportura if they do indeed have this feature.

Actually the Arctura is not a True Automatic, it is Actually a Quartz that has a chargeable capacitor it uses a rotor to charge it, it is one reason that they don't sweep and that they keep such accurate time. I have a Kinetic with the Auto Relay function as well. The only disappointing feature about the auto time correction is that it doesn't change the date and if it Hibernates you lose true accuracy.
The other downside is that the capacitor stop holding a charge after a few years ( you can wear it all day but if you take it off at night it will stop. ) I know that you can spend like $40-50 to get them recharged or replaced.
I have first hand experience with this both Seiko Kinetic Windwards ( with the power reserve feature )
At first I thought that it was from some hard Jolts, I have since learned otherwise, see the photos of my hardlex in another thread, that watch has had more Jolts and sudden impacts and shocks.

Thanks for all the info Oregon. No problem. The rapid movement of the hands is neat. Here is an Acrobat file on How it works with pictures & diagrams, an exploded view inside the watch, Link is only good for 30 days.
