If you own or you are thinking about purchasing a Breitling, what do you love about it? What model speaks to you?
If you have no desire to own a Breitling, why is that?
Let's get this forum going!!

well, that's easy for me. I haved loved all my past Breitlings for different reasons. My current SF has so many qualities i love; the silver dial, the applied numerals, the bezel is a work of art, it's unique(read as, not another sub-alike), i like the winged logo, the polished/brushed mixed surfaces, the chunky size. Weird as it seems, i also just love the name.

The SF X-Plus is my first Breitling ever. I've always been an Omega guy, but as a big airplane lover Breitling was always in my sights.
Oddly enough, I bought a diver and not the aviation model! I bought the SteelFish for pretty much the same reasons you bought yours. It looks like it means business. It is big, heavy and tough looking. The dial is great, and I love the hand applied hour markers and the Flying B logo. I know that the ETA movement that they use is a more utilitarian one than the one in my SMP, but it IS a chronometer after all, and that's all I care for anyway.
I also like that the Breitling looks like a Breitling from a mile way. It has a very distinctive look to it. I love anything that you just know what it is without having to read the name plate, and Breitling fits the bill.

As I'm sure most of us can claim - I've looked at lots and lots of watches and as far as I'm concerned Breitling has a distinctive design style that nobody else has. It doesn't matter whether it's a diver or an aviation model. As chip said, "...a Breitling looks like a Breitling." I prefer their aviation watches as I think they are particularly distinct - and - it's a tool watch that Breitling has had a reputation for doing better than anyone else. I own a Chrono-Matic. I fell in love with the distinctive look and the uniqueness of the crown on the left. The quality of the case, the rotating bezel, the crocodile strap - everything - is simply first rate. In fact, I think it's nicer quality than some watches that cost a fair bit more (I won't mention any names ). And....for watches that mere mortals can aspire to owning, I don't think that anyone does their faces better than Breitling. And the fact that it keeps pretty good time, tooo, is an added bonus! -Ben

I bought my first Breitling less than a month ago, it was a Colt GMT. I've been eyeing them for quite some time, admiring their "bling" factor, busy dials, COSC certification on all their watches, etc. I would have wanted a chrono automatic if I found a reasonably priced one that was in a size I wanted (approx 40mm and not too thick). I did not, so I settled on the GMT and am not sorry at all. I just fit my wrist well and I just fell in love with the way it looked. It was also the perfect size I was looking for.
I absolutely love the shiny polished arabic numbers on this model.

I don't know why the Colt is positioned as the Entry level Breitling. After all it uses the same ETA sourced Breitling 17 movement as the somewhat better perceived Seawolf and SteelFish X-plus. I found the Colt GMT to be a very good looking piece when i saw it in person and your great shots reinforced my opinion.

I made that same argument with my AD regarding the SO vs the Colt GMT. The gmt cost less but had the 2nd time zone fx and applied numerals. He gave the reason for the price difference as the case of the SO was more expensive. It probably is, but the colt just seems like such a deal on a great watch. I personally like the fighter bracelet better than the professional also. thom

That's it. That's why the Colt did not work for me.
I do not like the fighter bracelet. It looks different, and it is very very comfortable but it just does not do it for me.

I have to agree on Chips reasons for the SF X. I had always wanted a Breitling since the mid 90's. Ten years later the dream became reality. I do have to give JohnR the credit for getting me on the move towards it. Karl

Nice SteelFish! What made you decide to go with the 42 instead of the steelfish x-plus? I got the x plus for the "very much needed" 500 extra meters of water resistance but after seeing yours, with the thinner bezel... I am starting to want one of those now!

Chip I prefer the 42mm size as the biggest I will wear in watches in general with an occasional exception as I have a small wrist. I got my SF before the SF Xs were out. I love it and feel that Breitlings tend to be distinctive in appearance all to themselves.

the 42 mm looks a bit more elegant due to the thinner bezel. The dealer had a white face Stellfish and the black face XPlus that just came in and it hasn't even been unwrapped. The X-Plus looks a bit tougher and I already have a few watches that are more on the elegant side, like my AT Chrono.
The Seawolf Avenger is on my short list! Did I mention that I have a very very small wrist? With three links out it still moves on my wrist!

So why do I like my Breitling?
I went with the Montbrillant 1903 Special Edition. It was a tough battle between that and the Navitimer Datora, but I think eventually the classic look and feel with a hint of heritage won me over. I just think that Breitling (any Breitling) is a subtle sign of sophistication. It was bought not to be recognised by everybody, but by those few who make a silent statement to all others..."this watch was never about the money, but if you are not wearing a Breitling, then I don't think you'd understand."
So why do I love my Breitling?
For all that time and all that work, maybe even all that luck that leads you to putting it on your wrist and with a gentle twist you watch the colours come to life, the outside chrome, the numbers on the outer rim, the dials, the arrows…and you realise, that THIS is truly mine ;D now tell me that is not a death bed memory.
PS. I hope I have not come across harsh on non believers, but try one on, and you will see the light! Have to break out my camera for the photo contest!
