I went to the local Breitling dealer today and took a look at the Steelfish. I must say I really thought it was an incredible watch. Just felt like a really solid, well constructed instrument.
I have been looking at Omega's for awhile, and I spent time today with the Steelfish, Omega SMP and the Planet Ocean. I'm sure I'll end up owning an Omega at a later date, and nothing against them...but there was just something about the Steelfish blew me away compared to the SMP and Planet Ocean.
So...my question is regarding size. I heard that Breitling has a larger version of the Steelfish (44mm vs 42mm, I believe). The dealer didn't know anything about this and wasn't sure of the size. Is there a good way for me to tell the difference? The model I saw today was plenty big...almost too big. I'm afraid that if it was the 42mm that I saw today, the 44mm would just be too massive. I want to make sure I place an order for the right size. What are most dealers carrying? Are they going to continue selling the smaller version?
BTW, the dealer had the smaller version of the black PO. Nice watch, but I think I actually preferred the 2254.50 - especially for the price.
thanks, Mike

According to Breitling's web site as well as a recent catalog that I have, the Steelfish is only available in the 42mm diameter. There is no mention of any other size.
The Chrono Avenger (and M1) and Avenger Seawolf are 44mm with the Super Avenger at a whopping 48.80mm. Now *that's* a big'un! ;D The rest of the aeromarine collection is 42.00mm and smaller (down to 33.80mm for the Colt Oceane).

ok...with a little research I think I found that the Steelfish X-Plus is 44mm and has water resistance up to 2,000m while the "smaller" version is 42mm and 1,500m. This sound right?
thanks, Mike

Good research! I was hoping someone would come up with the answer. I seemed to recall reading that, but wasn't sure.

You are correct. There is indeed a new Steelfish X-plus or whatever they are calling it and it is 44mm. It is essentially the same watch except 2mm larger, but there are a few minor differences that you can pic out if you know what to look for. If you do a search on the Timezone Breitling forum, I think there were some comparison shots posted. I'm anxious to see one in person to see just how big they really look.

I called back the dealer, and they said the watch in their display case has a depth rating of 2000m -- so this is indeed the X-Plus that I tried on yesterday.
I'm pretty big myself (6'3", 205lb) but I have fairly thin wrists. It is definitely a substantial watch, but I think would work just great for me. I found a wristshot of the X-Plus in the TZ forum, and the photo was pretty similiar to how the watch looked on me....
Thanks guys, Mike

I just bought a SteelFish X-Plus two days ago. It actually feels a lot smaller than it really is. There are some pics that you can see... somewhere around here.
