Well dear sirs I have almost become an owner of a Breitling. I have been toying with the idea for about 4 years now, but only recently it has become an expensive possibilty. So I have spent the last 2 months picking and choosing and looking for the one. If I knew that this forum exsited earlier it would have been just so much more help Anyway I have descided to go for the Montbriliant 1903 edition, I just wanted to hear what some of your opinions are on this watch...?

A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to make a trade for one, but ended up not doing it. The reason I didn't go for it was because it was just a little larger than I wanted, but I still thought about it seriously!
The flyback is an added bonus on this watch and definately makes it worth more. For me, the size and the silvered dial were the negatives (I would've prefered black or blue and 40-41 mm).

The silvered dial...? Sorry I am new to all of this, but I would have called it black its the Special Edition that is advertised on the Breitling website. Ofcourse I am not getting the Rose gold case one as I am not a gold-kind-of-guy but the silver one is impressive never the less. Oh an I think I can just barely get away with the size, but I do agree with you it can be considered rather big. I love it, but the € 4000 price tag still makes me wince a little and contiplate on carrying a gun for those handshakers that like to grab your wrist

Sorry, maybe I'm dead wrong here. I thought the anniversary edition only had the silver dial? Let me go look at it.

watch! I do like the one you are considering, and would've prefered it over the one I was looking at. Generally, I'm preferring smaller watches now, but with the black dial on that one, I'd make an exception I think you've made a nice choice.

Breitling offers a lot of great watches, but I think that the Navitimers are the real heart and soul of the company. It seems to be the product line that really put Breitling on the map; and isn't it an historic line as far as horology goes? It certainly is as far as Breitling's history is concerned. The Montbriiliant's face has a lot going on (as do all Navitimers), and that can be an acquired taste. But it's a real "tool watch" and, for me, contributes to its uniqueness and character. I like the vintage "look & feel" of the LE Montbrilliant 1903 - but I also like warranties. And the fact that it's a limited edition watch contributes to its distinction and perhaps even its future value as an investment. That was one of the reasons (albeit a minor reason) that I purchased the limited edition Chrono-Matic as my first Breitling. If the Montrbrilliant is as finely finished and detailed as the Chrono-Matic, and there is no reason to believe it isn't, then I don't think you can go wrong. But, it all boils down to... Do you really like the watch? Do you like how it looks on your wrist? Does it fit your style? If your answer to those questions isn't a resounding "yes" then keep looking. Those are the real reasons to buy it! If you're not sure about those answers, then keep looking. There's lots of great watches out there. Oh...one last thing. For me, to keep that great vintage feel, I'd get it with a leather or crocodile band. I think its character would be diminished with a metal bracelet. Just my two cents. -Ben

So at last it has occurred. After months of looking and coming up with pros and cons, and the occasional try on, I have become an owner of the Montbrilliant 1903 edition…its absolutely beautiful. I want to thank this forum because in the few conversations here I have managed to come across some very insightful points of information and also it gave me enough heart and resolve to acquire my own. Thank you again PS. Hopefully I will be able to do a review on mine, just have to see if I get permission (see the Datora Review post).

Congrats! I'm sure you'll enjoy wearing it and I suspect it won't be long before you start thinking about which one you'll want next. I know that I am! -Ben
