I was looking at Breitlings again at another local AD and found a model I was not familiar with. The Chronomat 2000. The AD claims it is last year's model and does not show up in their current catalog (he finally found it in an older catalog). It appears to be very similar to the Chrono Cockpit (both 39mm dia., automatic, chronograph) a little different in the dial decoration and thickness (the Cockpit was significanly much thicker than the 2000) although the price seem very similar.
Anyone care to explain the differences? When was this discontinued, etc.?
Thanks.

The Chronomat's figured in the Chronolog '04 - there were a number of styles and were sold 'as the flagship model of Breitling'. They both share the same movement - Breitling 13 (based on the Val 7750 - i think) - both chronometre grade movements and chronograph complications at 6-9-12 position sub-dials.
Chronomat came in many variants up to last year when the winrider line was shelved except for the Headwind and Callisto.. sad really.
Blackbird is a nice variant - all matt steel finish..
If you can get a NOS Chronomat this may be the one you are looking for!

My Chronomat is 5-6 years old, prior to everything being COSC from Breitling. It is a little thinner than the current model and I prefer it that way. Honestly, most of the newer Breitlings are way to big and thick for me.
I think it's unfortunate as there's no really good reason for it other than the current fashion of big chunky watches, and the layman's view that big and chunky = tougher.
The only ones I really like anymore for everyday wear are the Chronomat, the SuperOcean and the original Navitimer: all managable sizes. I also like the Aerospace, just wish it wasn't so bloody expensive for a quartz watch.
