Hey Guys,
I have been checking out the Breitling site.(Very nice) 8-)But now I have a few questions.
1) Does the Emergency Mission series transponder work for a monitored emergency service, a. Is it world wide? b. Who monitores it? c. What are the repocussions if operated? d. Is it similar to an e.p.i.r.b. found on boats?(operates on a distress frequency which is due to change 2008 to a VHF frequecy.)
2) Is there are pecking order of watches? a. What is the entry model? (Auto versions) b. What model is the most desired model?(Not metal value or diamonds) c. Is there a Breitling that stands out in resale of second hand models?
3) What is the purpose of the ugly second watch on one of the models. At the bracelet start.?
4) Which model has the jet turbine on the case back.(I have seen it on a model one time)
Thats about all for now.
Cheers Aaron

I'll start from the end: 4. The case back you refer to is on the B1, likely as we've posted those pics. Not sure if it's on anything else. 3. That ugly seconds watch you refer to is actually a UTC unit...a seperately operating UTC "watch". Not my thing. 2. I don't really know the answer to this. It depends on your interests. If you look at the prices, I don't think there is an "entry level" Breitling. The Navitimer line is probably considered the top by most Breitling guys, but again, it depends on your interest. 1. It's basically a transponder on 121.5, the aviation emergency frequency. The FAA would pick up the signal in the US. I do know you have to register the transponder code. I've read that setting it off in a non-aviation emergency situation may be accompanied with fines.
Personally, I think this is a gimick watch. If you don't fly, you don't need it. And if you do fly, and you crash bad enough to break the transponder in your a/c, you're watch ain't gonna do you any good anyway.
Best I can do on less than one cuppa Aaronl

It's the same as GMT except it's corrected for seconds using atomic clocks. I can't remember the exact difference in correction, but for all intents and purposes, it's the same as GMT.

Hey Aaron, I'll see if I can add anything to any of the above answers.
As far as an entry level watch, I guess it would be one of the Colt line. I say this mostly because I think they are among the cheapest. They are also the smallest. I wanted one when I first started looking at Breitling's since I found that I could get a quartz colt for about $700. I was all excited that I could get a Breitling for $700. Well, then I saw one and realized how small they were (I think somewhere around 38mm). This was also before I realized that real men wear automatics.
Most Breitling purists probably consider the Navitimer as the classic Breitling, although apparently the Chronomat has been their best selling model.
On the Emergency... I agree that the average person certainly doens't need one. Of one the local dealers salesmen wears one. I guess he's one of the top Breitling sales guys in the area and also has a $20,000 gold Navitimer. If you are in some type of situation where you use the watch as it was intended, I understand Breitling will replace it for free. There are several stories (I think they are up to about 10) where the watch has saved people. I forget how they go exactly, but it does apparently work.
I agree, the UTC isn't for me either, but I guess some people like the additional timezone.
I think Martyn has some great pics of the back of the B-1.

Thanks Guys,
It is a steep learning curve but hey it keeps me off the streets.
I think one thing about the Breitlings is the shine finish.I know a lot think they are scratch magnets but I find refinishing shiney surfaces are a lot easier than brushed.

I think Martyn has some great pics of the back of the B-1. John I don't suppose you meant something like these... did you? I like the B-1. Also - UTC (Universal Time Co-ordinates) is practically synonymous with GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)
