I am looking for a new watch, i currently have no other nice watches. I am going to spend under £1500 brand new price and have been looking at a the following breitlings: Superocean Steelfish Colt Automatic Colt GMT Colt Chrono Quartz Colt Quartz
What would everyone recommend? Also, how do breitlings age, are they relatively scratch resistant compared with omega. What is everyones overall opinion of the brand. Thanks for the comments.

Of the watches you list, my favourite is the Steelfish SO, but I also like the Colt GMT alot as well. If you ever tire of the watch and want to sell it, the Steelfish will probably bring a better used price. They are all good watches, and as in all brands, it's a matter of personal preference. I wore a Super Ocean for quite awhile and the finish held up well. Sure they scratch up, but in my experience somewhat less than Omegas, particularly the bracelets. Honestly, any watch will get scratched up with use, so you have to just mentally get over it and enjoy your watch with all its battle scars. As for my opinion of the brand, I obviously like it or I wouldn't be moderating this forum Objectively, I've owned 3 Breitlings, a bunch of Omegas, I think 6 Rolexes, several Sinns, etc. I like a lot of different brands and styles. My experience, so far, with Breitling has been that they are good timekeepers with excellent dial work and case finish and very very good bracelets. The brand has a rich history with a lot of innovations, particularly with chronographs and tool watch design (they invented the slide rule bezel). As with most every other brand, there are models I don't care for, but I don't think you can go wrong with Breitling. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search!

The Steelfish is a great daily wearer and very good water resistance. The Colts are renowned for being hard-wearing and GMT function is useful, though quickset feature moves the 24hr hand *not* the hour hand (oposite to Omega GMT and Rolex GMT) The quartz are rugged - some argue more than the auto's because of the less moving parts and being SuperQuartz generation are super accurate (few seconds per year). In the end it depends what you want from your watch and what size / feel you want to wear. That is very subjective. Try them all on for size and feel - and probably one will 'jump out' at you (smile at you ). Good luck. Don't rule out Omega or other 'mid-range' brands - have you checked out IWC, they make a nice watch or two? All the best. Martyn Really

I had a tough time trying to decide between the Colt GMT and the SO Steelfish. The Steelfish won out. I hadn't even considered the quartz versions as I am a auto guy but you can't go wrong with them either. Good luck with your choice.

Like kehac, I've gotten so deep into mechanical watches that I often don't consider quartz. However, I remember when I was starting out in this nutty watch thing, quartz was all I would consider because I knew nothing about mechanicals.
You really should go with whatever you feel most comfortable with for your lifestyle. If you are really interested in horology, or get that way from hanging out on these watch forums, I suspect you'ld be happier in the long run with a mechanical watch.
