A couple of years ago, while trying a Mont Blanc (diver) at an authorized dealer, the woman behind the counter told (and she was serious) that all Mont Blanc watches have Cartier movements inside… At the time I thought nothing of it except that it was a blatant lie (and a cheap argument). But last week, at a Oris dealer, another woman gave me the same line, telling me solemnly that “all Oris watches get their movements from Breitling”. I didn’t bother to tell her that the Oris website had a different story… Just wanted to share

Think that's just another example of a confused salesperson. Both the Oris and Breitling use ETA movements....maybe that was the cause of her mixed up info.
You should have heard a girl trying to explain to me what a co-axial movement is. ;D ;D ;D

it is striking the ignorance of some salespersons.. one tried to convince me that ther was no such thing as a white dialled SMP GMT.. when i wanted to buy one.. i had toask her to get omega catalogue and to show her.. its sad when sales people dont know their products. mamas

It is sad that sales persons are not required to learn at least the basics of the brands that they sell. Many years ago I worked in a pawn shop/jewelry store/gun shop, we had a guy come in, look at all the diamonds (nice stuff too, and declared that he could never buy a "used diamond"... Any way I bought my Oris after finally talking to a very knowledgeable salesman at a family owned jewelry store and Oris AD, he knew them inside and out. That is eventually what sold me, as I could have bought the same watch for somewhat less elsewhere...

I had an interesting experience. I was in a very high end, snooty watch store in Vegas (not Torneau), and I asked the guy, "do you have..." he interupted me with a condescending "yes we do". I continued "the new planet ocean.." (it had just come out weeks before, and he was an Omega AD) he said no, so I asked to see his Panerai collection. Didn't have that one either, so I said that I won't even bother asking about VC. He jumped at that one and spent the next half hour showing me 50k watches. I also realized that I know more about movements, history, etc. than him and I had only been into this obsession for a coulple of months. Moral of the story: never assume, and never be intimidated by the sales guy.

Cute and true, Shimside 11. Mostly, I just let them talk - and then try to convince them to take an Invicta in trade (lol).

Mont Blanc also uses ETA movements! I love going to an AD and lisening to them! My AD actually gave me a gift Certificate for coming to his Rolex event to help and display my Daytona
