Why do everybody else's watch shots look better than yours? I have asked myself this question many many times. We look at all these fabulous shots all over the various forums and we say "Why can't I do that? Well, the truth is that you can if you are willing to "See the Light." It took me awhile to see the light myself, but once you see it, you will be well on your way to taking great watch pictures.
It's not the quality of your watch, it's not the quality of your camera, it's not even the quality of your artistic mind, It's the quality of the light that counts.
What do I mean by quality of light? I don't mean good, better or best kinds of light, let's face it, light is light. What I mean is our ability to control light, to manipulate it in a way that gives us quality results. Quality application of light to our subjects is the most important task we face in trying to take great watch pictures.
Leaving light to chance is a sure route to failure. The single most important thing that you can do in order to control light is to build a light box or as I sometimes like to call it a "Light Cage", you can control the light in it, you can trap it and make it bend to your will with just a little work. Light control is everything. Learning to capture and tame light is crucial to our success.
If you'd like to know more about my experiences with building and using "Light Cages" and my ongoing efforts to improve my shots, let me know and I'll share everything I know with you and we can all learn together and from each other.
