Not mine... a buddy of mine got one. His first Rolex after years of collecting and trading watches. He's been through a number of AP Royal Oaks, IWCs, Omegas and other brands and currently has an AP RO, a Glashutte Original pilot watch, a GP Ferrari chrono and a few others.
He really likes the SD and says it'll be his daily driver cuz it's so tough. As a huge GO fan, he's impressed by Rolex's finish quality and sings the familiar song that the clasp is the one weak point. He'd also like to see solid links but hey, we all would.
I've tried to get him on here but he's pretty busy these days. But I won't give up!

I have to admit I'm surprised at how much I like my SD.

Mike, this guys is an AP RO fanatic. At one point he had three of them. He had an APRO Offshore, but got rid of it cuz it was just too big. Remember, his first love is Glashutte, so an Offshore compared to a GO is like comparing a Ferrari Modena to a Hummer.
AP are very expensive, certainly a premier brand producing haute horologie, but one watch I would never consider for my wrist. Not my cuppa tea.

I'd think, Johnny, that your example of "(the) Offshore compared to a GO is like comparing a Ferrari Modena to a Hummer" is born of their outward appearance, rather than their mechanics.
The AP ROO's are using an AP modified JLC 889 caliber mounted with a chrono module - a movement that definitely carries the Swiss/French influence in style and finish.
GO, on the other hand, exhibits the best of the Saxon style and, as such, presents with a totally different look and finishing philosophy.
In fact, both AP and GO utilize a similar, yet highly refined and sophisticated family of movements which are neither extremely delicate nor extremely robust; just very good mechanics that'll last a lifetime or two.
But you're right; the ROO just looks like the 'tougher' machine.
