Not sure if you guys heard about our Canadian sub that had an electical fire that claimed the life of one of our sailors.
Anyway, it's all over Canadian news and some stupid journalists are saying 'submareener' instead of sub-mare-in-er.
Sheesh... and these people make their living using words and letters? No wonder the english language is under constant assault.

But.... if they are in a 'submareen', doesn't that make them..... submareeners?? The coloquial and idiomatic idiosyncrasies of the language are a total mystery to me, not to mention the argotic intricacies. I mean, take the word escutcheon, with which you may not be familiar, what's that all about? ;D spaz.

Spaz, the English language is a difficult one to learn and even more difficult to explain the rules, even to those fluent in the language. Because English is a bastardization of many languages using latin, french, german and the olde and middle versions of said languages, plus the constant evolution of the language, it's difficult to explain. However, while you sail in a 'submareen' you are a 'submare-in-er'. Submarine stems from the root word 'marine' meaning ocean. So submarine means you are beneath the ocean. One who sails on a ship is a 'mariner' (mare-in-er) one who sails in a sub is a 'submare-in-er'. Clear as mud? As for escutcheon, it's from middle French, English and Latin.

Okay, I may be crazy but that was one hell of a big hint. Have we perhaps met on another watch forum?

Okay, I may be crazy but that was one hell of a big hint. Have we perhaps met on another watch forum? Obviously you've observed that I'm obfuscating and deliberately being obtuse and though I've obtained your attention through my tendency toward obaceration, this failing on my part is because of my obdurate nature, and for that I do apologise spaz.

Spaz gotta say, right from your first post I was suspicious. The more you posted the more familiar your style appeared until you showed that last card.
Hope all is well and look forward to that long awaited email.
So Spaz, still have the TT Sub and the Kermit Sub? Still have a 16610 as well?

FYI guys, Spaz is one of the good ones. Kindness, humour, respect and integrity are what he's all about. He's also a master obfuscator and shirks responsibility with the best of them. ;D He's a hero of mine for that reason alone.
