Hi ZIN, you have to manually wind this watch, I tried it myself and it I did have to manually wind it to start it up... when you press the upper button, the hand at 12 hour starts moving. then you can stop it and it returns to the 12 hour marker very fast in a fast one motion movement. The small dial at the left is the one that moves as a second marker.
Cheers,
MVF

OK pal Sorry, your edit and my post crossed in the www. Difficult to tell. It seems fine but I'm trying to make out the 20/40/60 markings on the small seconds dial at 9 o'clock. USD 800 is a great price even if you have to have it fully-serviced. Do you have any pictures of the caseback or clasp please? I need to go out now and will be back in a bit ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

Something like this?
Are you sure about the presence of the hippo?
It could be one of the post-moon landing early Speedies ref 145.022 which came out between 69 to 71. The ref no should be present on the reverse ( inner ) side of the caseback. The year of manufacture would be stamped on it too. It would look like this 145022-69ST where 69 is the yr the watch was made. ST=stainless steel.
Cheerio for now ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D Picture courtesy of Chuck Maddox

Mr MVF I think I can make out a faint tracing of the SN. If it's a hoax it's a pretty elaborate one. Subject to the matters expressed in PM and indeed the logo on the hesalite could be rubbed off, the SN worn down over the years, Omega may well have rejigged the layout of the lettering on the inside of the case, I would ere on the side of giving it the benefit of doubt since once in a blue moon a bargain in an old Speedy Pro does come around. It'll probably cost you $400 to 500 for a service and you'll have an almost brand new watch. It may be nice to retain the hands too when the watch goes into service though you'll have to specify that. If you can get a warranty as to authenticity then so much the better. I've asked a couple of Speedy experts to examine this watch/ Hopefully they'll be along before too long pal. Hope I may have helped in some small way. Be well now ZIN Not usually shaken nor stirred ;D ;D ;D

The price you mentioned is a EXCELLENT price, I would jump on it right away... The bracelet looks fine as well.. Great deal. Now all you need is a qualified watchmaker...

Yes, I agree with GJ - JUMP ON IT! The bracelet is a vintage 1039 that regularly sell at auction for $300-600 depending upon condition. And most any Speedy Pro is worth $800. Cal. 861 movements bring $500-600 by themselves. Bottom line: "Good Deal, McNeal" as my grandson would say. Fr. John+

Cal. 861 movements bring $500-600 by themselves. The watch is from 1971 and SNs on the 7:00 lug did not appear until the mid-90s. But the SN is quite visible on the escape wheel bridge.
