Im have always understood that a gold ,or two tone watch like the 16233 datejust will have a yellow(ish) background datewheel, not white. But I have noticed a number of watches for sale from reputable sellers that have a white background on a two tone watch . Is this a sign of a non genuine repair or a fake, or do Rolex fit varying color background date wheels?

Never say "always" or any statement without exception for Rolex. ;D Have any photos we can see as an example?

A supplemental question I have on this subject is: Does anyone know if Rolex have more than one background color for their date wheel specifically on the DJ line (mens or womens)? i.e do they have a white AND an off white background date wheel? I believe I have seen this difference in shade of whiteness but do not have pictures available to show. This observation may not be a sign of a fake watch but just maybe due to someone changing their dial (color).

Hi,
I have a yellow gold president w/ champange dial and the date wheel is off white. I also have a white gold president w rhodium dial and the date wheel is pure white.
A buddy of mine has a yellow gold president w/ a white dial and his date wheel is white.
I believe that Rolex varies the color of the date wheel based on the color of the dial.

I read in John Brozek's book on Rolex that the date wheel always follows the bezel color, eg if the bezel is gold then the background to the date wheel will be a yellow or sandy color and if S/s then it will be white. i dont have any photos yet but others may know more Knoffie

That may be true; but, I beleive customers can change the dial later if they wish. John may know more.

Dials are easily changed.
