I have been looking to purchase a new watch recently and was really going back and forth between a Rolex Submariner and the Omega Seamaster Professional. After reading many websites including this one I decided to go ahead and get the Rolex. While both appear to be fine watches, it just appeared that most that bought Omegas ended up owning Rolex at some point in time. I figured I would go ahead and get the Rolex.
So, I am now the proud owner of a new Rolex Submariner SS with black dial.

Hello Irhogfan, congratulation on your purchase. I've been jogling with the same questions as you but I took the Omega route and got a Seamaster.
You made an excellent choice with the sub. As a proud owner, you now have to show us pictures of that baby.
Have a nice evening!

CONGRATS on your new purchase!!! Please tell us all about it and your experience. And post pics when you can. Also, Welcome to WTF!!!! We hope you stop by the forum often! From Mr. Houston's school of posting pictures: POSTING PICS Posting pictures is very easy. Here's what you do - 1. Register with a picture host like photobucket.com This is a free service for up to 1,000 images. 2. Once registered, use the choose or browse function on your photobucket homepage to locate the image you wish to post, from your hard drive PLEASE REMEMBER to set the maximum size of the image 800 x 600 is best Anything else would make viewing and accessing the page for users difficult. 3. Click SELECT and then UPLOAD 4. Once uploaded, simply copy the fourth option under each image on your photobucket homepage and paste it into the body of your text here. This fourth link is the Image Tag.

Is that a duck in your dog's mouth?
Welcome to WTF, and good choice. I collect Rolex and Omega and find them both to be enjoyable, though I enjoy my Rolex pieces more. Hopefully soon, I'll have both a Rolex TT Blue Dial Submariner added to my collection to complement my selection of Omega diving watches (including the Planet Ocean).

Well done Irhogfan, a good photo also,
I am also edging slowly towards the inevitable... although will go pre-owned I think, and am still debating whether to go for the non-date or date (not a huge cyclops fand and I think the SeaDweller would be too big/heavy for wearing with a suit)
Can you tell me: is finally owing a Sub what you would expect it to be, or are you slightly underwhelmed? I have not regretted Omega ownership for one moment, the quality is incredible, but sooner or later I think most of use are drawn to the mystique of Rolex..

I had a great experience at the AD, which happens to be about a mile from my home. Honestly, this whole quest for a new watch started because the battery in my Fossil watch went out and I was tired of buying cheap watches and wanted something nice. My brother and mother both have Rolex watches and I wanted something similar. If the dealers around here would have had the Omega 2254.50 in stock at the time I was looking at them, that is probably what I would have ended up with. Fortunately for me (maybe unfortunately for my pocketbook) I couldn't find one and decided to read some more about Rolex.
Because of a recent hunting trip in Kansas, I had plenty of time to think about what I wanted while driving from Arkansas. I finally decided that when I got home, I would go take a look at the local dealer and see what they had to offer. When I arrived back in town, I went almost straight to the dealer and they had five Submariners in stock. The salesperson was very informative and made me an offer that I couldn't refuse, although I did make him wait for a few hours while I went home and thought about how much money I was about to spend. I returned to the dealer and bought the watch that I had just tried on a few hours earlier. I will say, the watch fit perfectly without any adjustments and that probably made trying it on an even better experience.
After wearing it for a day and reading the various praises/complaints, I can say that I have no complaints at all. I know a lot of people don't like the clasp and I didn't at first. Visually, the Omega clasp is much prettier to look at, but for me I think the clasp of the Rolex is built to be as secure as any clasp out there. I see no reason at all for Rolex to do anything to change it. The dial of the watch is beautiful and while I thought that I also wouldn't like the cyclops, it really isn't as distracting as I thought it might be. I do like the Seadweller, but since I only really plan on owning one Rolex, I felt that the Submariner was the better choice. Who knows, maybe I will be sucked in and may own more than one someday.
I am very happy with my purchase, even though I spent more than double what I would have spent on a comparable Omega. I think that I was sold when my mom asked me which watch did I see still wearing in 15 years. At that point, I knew that I needed to buy the Rolex. I probably would have bought it eventually anyway, so why wait. As my dad always said, "it only costs a little bit more to go first class."
Yes, that is a duck in the mouth of the dog. That is from my Arkansas Wildlife magazine and was the best background I could find on short notice. I look forward to being able to shoot some pictures of it on the beach in the future. There are truly some talented people on here with some of the photos. If only I can do half as well as what I have seen.

Irhogfan: Great story. Glad you decided to post it for all to read. Thanks for sharing. No doubt you will be VERY happy with your watch. I have had mine now for about 7 months, and I still look down and smile at it. BTW, no worries about pictures. We still would like to see them!

Congrats and welcome to WTF! I would LOVE to see more photos of your Sub - looks like it has the Rolex engraving on the inner bezel - the first 16610 I've seen with it. I recently bought a Sub too...but mine's an old one. ;D
