This watch is way too new for me to write a review, so these are my initial impressions. First, the case design is the best part of the watch. It implies real quality with the screwed in back, coin edge bezel and heft. The dial itself is clean with no blurred edges. It is really too busy for my taste, but everything is legible - even without my glasses. The slide rule bezel turns easily. But it does not lock into place. Which could be a problem - if you ever have to use it. I never will. This watch has a quick set date and the day is in two languages. Standard set up. My least favorite thing is the bracelet. Which feels cheap, wobbly and insubstantial. Guess all the money went into the case and movement (an automatic). It looks like the watch has solid end links, but cleverly hidden (underneath) are two quick release (I believe) pins. Definitely not my cup of tea. The case back says the watch is water resistant, but does not give a depth. The crystal is mineral. There is no display back. This model is 43mm wide and weighs only 106 grams. An Invicta 8926 weighs in at 146G so the Orient is considerably lighter. I like the packaging. I am a packaging freak. I think it adds to the overall pleasure of the watch. All in all, this fellow is worth the $99 I spent on it. Not a penny more. The retail is $325. However, I would say the Invictas I bought recently for $90 are better values.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I realy like it myself (no offense) just not my style but for $99 what the heck. Is the bracelet hollow, soild, or folded over links?? I'm guessing hollow because of your description. Enjoy your new Ugly ;D watch. ;D ;D

No offense taken. I'm not really sure I like it either! The links are hollow, fold over. No pins..... Interestingly, I just had a client leave. He's a professional jet pilot for a worldwide freight company and a rabid watch collector. He was wearing a Breitling B-1 today (also owns Top Gun No. 20 NIB). He was quite taken with the Orient and intends to buy one. Says you can't beat the price and likes how light it is. Says his B-1 is way too heavy. He was serious and asked for where I got it. Twice. Insisted I write it down. He will be wearing one soon in the cockpit of a 747B. He likes the 24-hour dial and the slide rule thing. So what the heck do I know? And it is ugly!!!!

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. What made you decide to buy it? Did you just like the look of it and discovered the problems when you got it home?

Well, I never had an Orient. I looked at a bunch and was going crazy with the options. So I bought this cause it was cheap (relatively speaking) and I figured indicative of the brand. One was as good as another - and I didn't want to spring for Orient's higher end models. Especially since I'd never actually seen or held an Orient. And then there was the nifty slide rule function. I thought it was odd and amusing. I genuinely like the case. It has real heft and is nicely made. I may change the bracelet to a strap. Or I may just keep it as it is. Watches have a way of growing on me. And it's very early in the relationship. In a couple of weeks, I will probably defend this beast to the death (lol)!

Defend this beast? sounds like we have Don Quixote in our midst? who's your Pancho Sanza?
IMO, put it on a nice strap and joust some Windmills Sir Boscoe.

I must confess I'm really taken with the coin edge bezel. Nice touch on a watch at this price. And very nicely machined. You can see it's worming its way into a permanent spot in my collection already.

Of course I know you're teasing. And it wouldn't matter if you weren't. But, Jim, I'm only going to say nice things about this watch for the moment. I have a big fish on the line - some guy named Eel or something like that. I'm offering it to him for $395. Told him it was worth $1900.
