These days I do 90 percent of my watch shopping on the web, but I used to travel from Florida to Manhattan at least three times a month. I discovered Manhattan is the best place for hands-on shopping for Japanese brands. A trip to the wholesale district Broadway between 33rd and 25th street is a must for any watch nut. You'll find ADs for Seiko, Pulsar, Citizen, you name it, offering staggering discounts. And despite the signs on the windows, you usually don't have to buy in wholesale lots - though multiple watch purchases (in cash) is seriously encouraged. There are watches of every discription and price range (though mostly cheap Chinese stuff, which is still fun for three bucks) along this stretch of Broadway. Haggling is encouraged, which is fabulous fun. This is not knockoff land - at least the last time I was there. No bogus Rollie's etc. You can pretty much shop with confidence. You'll see brands that are well known overseas but rarely sold here. I encourage you all to visit if you're in Manhattan. This area's only two blocks east of Macy's.

Thanks. I'll remember that. Haven't been in Dallas in 20 years. Used to live in Corpus and Austin. Anyone else have a favorite spot?

No. Canal Street has good deals on electronics, knockoff purses (if you're into that kind of thing) and jewelry. This is about two miles (maybe three) uptown on Broadway right near Macy's flagship store. It's two/three blocks west of Penn Station (aka Madison Square Garden). Sort of abutts the downtown end of the garment district. This is a true wholesale district with everything from watches, costume jewelry, African art, Indian imports, electronics, toys, clothes, sneakers etc. etc. If you're every in NY worth the stroll. Canal street is more about retail with slashed prices. Broadway is real wholesale, with an occassional "retail" sale by a merchant who wants to boost his profit on a particular piece. Amazing bargains to be had. You can find decent deals on Rolex and other high end brands up in the Diamond District (near Rockefeller Center on Sixth Ave and 46th Street). Back in the day, I also used to live in NYC.

Love shopping in the NYC Jewellery District !!
I borrow a long black coat, let the beard grow, and oy I'm in like Moe ! No disrespect intended but I love the place, so much stuff it looks fake, sort of like Wonka's Factory but in 18K and 3C's. I got to go back soon.
