Considering the range of opinions on this watch I thought long and hard before deciding to buy one. When I saw the two tone blue and white dial of the SNA413, my mind was made up and I went for it. There have been several reviews on the Flightmaster so I'll just give some of my first impressions.
This is a hulk of a watch and weigns only about 1/4 oz less than my Black Monster at about 6 1/2 oz. It's about 1/4 oz heavier than the 6309 to give another reference. The dial, in my opinion, is much better than the all black dial and separates the calculator functions from the watch and chrono functions. The contrast between the hands and the white portion of the dial leave a little to be desired but the time is quickly aquired nevertheless.
The crystal is Seikos Hardlex and is domed. Might be more prone to scratching but is very attractive and I'm pretty careful with my watches. (famous last words).
The bracelet is a strong point of this watch. It's very thick with solid outer links and hollow inner links. I was pleased to see that the end links are solid instead of stamped. Links are pinned together and the clasp is the famed Seiko double safety push button version. Some have complained about the fact that the clasp looks smaller than the bracelet it attaches to but upon close examination the reason for this is that the bracelet is a full 22mm all the way from the lugs to the clasp. On Seiko's other divers the bracelet tapers to 20mm at the clasp. This clasp is the exact samer version as is on all other full size divers. The bracelet has high polished center links bordered by satin finished outersand the sides of the outer links are also polished. I have mixed feelings about polished links and am considering refinishing the bracelet to be all satin.
The chrono functions work fluidly and the chrono buttons are sealed with screw down locks which help give this watch its 200 meter rating. All in all I really like this watch and plan to give it a good month or two to see if I will bond with it permenantly (or is any watch really permenatnt?). I've taken some quick pics for your enjoyment and would appreciate your thoughts on whether you like the polished center links or would prefer an all satin bracelet? I'd hate to remove the polish and then find that, if I decide to sell it, the satin look is unpopular. Thanks for checking my Flightmaster out.
