Hi Guys,
Another camera recommendation question I'm afraid.
I am very close to pulling the trigger on the new Sony N2 compact.
I need the camera for general holiday snaps, scenery, portrait stuff and, most importantly, close up and high detail watch shots. I like the 3 inch touch screen and the other functions. It is also very compact. Has anybody any experience with the N2? I realise 10Mp may be a bit overkill but I would like to print some of my pictures out to A4 size.
The N2's MRRP is 350 gbp. I have already found it 30% off.
I have also considered a DSLR simply because of the versatility and speed of use. However, I'm not sure I could justify the 600-odd gbp required. I could be spending the extra money on watches. Plus I really would like it to be compact (pocketable).
Thanks in advance for any help,
Rick.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be very welcome.

Hi Zin, Thanks for your very prompt and informative reply. There is a wealth of information you have offered here. As part of the Atkins Approach I shall consider all information impartially. However, after having a very quick shufty at the links I'm still swaying towards the N2. I'll try and price up the Canon SD900 and G7 models and see if they compare to the 240gbp I've found the N2 for. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers for now buddy, Rick.

Hi again Zin, Your response has been a revelation to me. I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that I am now seriously considering the Canon Ixus 900ti. I have found it for the same price as the N2, give or take five quid, and it seems to be a better camera. I really did like the touch screen of the Sony but I realised that this was a gadget for gadgets sake, it would probably slow down the true functions of the camera and it would soon get messed up, resulting in obscured images on the screen. So my final question in this Atkins Approach Towards Buying A New Camera is: Do any of you guys own this camera and can you highlight any links on this forum of watch shots you have taken with it? Thanks in advance, Rick.

Hey Pal Jolly good show - have you seen my PM? DPR has a number of comparative shots in their detailed review. As I said b4, I really think that at this time of writing, the King of ultracompacts is the Canon SD900. Canon have been making the SD/Digital Ixus/IXY series for sometime now and they really know what they are doing. I'm a fan but that doesn't mean I don't look at the opposition. At this time about three years ago, I might just have gone for the Panasonic Lumix but now Canon are in pole position. Indeed they have always been there or therabouts. See ya ZIN

I'll bet John since back in the film camera days, I never anticipated using anything less than a SLR. In fact I'll go as far as to say I wouldn't be seen dead using anything else. Now though I think I'm much more at the Joe Soap end of camera users. No offense to Joe Soap naturally and our Point N Shoots are pocketable ( short or jacket ). About two years ago, a couple whom I knew were married and they showed me pictures of their happy occasion which were taken by a film SLR. Man, the quality was staggering. See ya ZIN

Zin -believe me, when lugging around my backpack full of photo equipment around Europe, I questioned my sanity, and longed for something that would fit in my coat pocket.
