Below is an image of my 8926, taken the day I received it. I almost submitted it for the contest (to win the Ocean Ghost II), but decided against it. What are some reasons I may have decided against this photo? After we get some comments, I'll share why I felt this image wasn't "good enough". Dave

well a couple things if you want to be picky! 1. the light reflection off the case at the 12:00 position 2. the light dot at the 11:00 position above the marker 3. the light reflection on the date magnifier 4. the #10 is not crisp and shadowed 5. the markers cover the wording on the dial 6. half the watch is light and half is shadowed 7. the watch was not stopped to prevent the sweeping second hand to be stopped 8. it looks like there is a red dot in the date magnifier in the bottom left area! Thanks Mike PS photo is still better than what i produce!

Dave Hey Dave, I think the lower right side is not in focus compared to rest of the shot. & No dance kitten in the photo. Cheers Aaron

Looks like insufficient depth of field. What f-stop did you use ?
Also please provide some details on the focal length used.
Thanks
Cheers, Henry

Great responses. Really, all of your comments are correct. There are even a couple I didn't notice (because I rejected the image as soon as I saw it).
Some of the flaws can be fixed in a program like Adobe PhotoShop, for example, the small white dots on the crystal.
I actually focused on the words "Water Resistant" for this image. I was pleased with the focus, though the right side is too blurry for my tastes. I used f/8...too low to get everything in focus. I was using a new lighting setup and still had to get used to it.
I felt that the right side of the watch was overexposed and that there were too many gross reflections of light.
So, some tips:
Before you photograph your watch, CLEAN IT! Fingerprints and dust will be made visible, and they are often difficult to see with the naked eye.
Position the hands so that all of the words can be read. While this isn't a hard rule, my photo would have been better if the hands were set to 09:09, and with the sweeping hand at 4:00 or 8:00.
Use a softbox or some other way to soften and even out your light. Even if you plan on a dramatic image that uses light from one direction, the light is always better when it isn't harsh. You may need to adjust your shutter speed and use a tripod for anything over 1/45 of a second. You can use a white sheet, vellum paper, white rip-stop nylon, translucent umbrellas, or other creative ways to diffuse the light and make is soft and even.
Stopping the sweeping hand is often a good idea if you don't want it slightly blurred, although there are times you may want the dynamic blur by design.
I used a 1 foot by 1 foot marble tile for the background, purchased from a home store for under $1.50usd.
Dave.
