Hi all, and welcome to the WTF Watch Photography forum!
Please use this forum to post questions, answers, and photos. All questions are welcome, and we will look to our forum members for advice and answers.
Subjects that we can cover here include (but are not limited to):
f stops, lighting setups, lighting types (natural, flash, etc.), special effects, tools, angles, lenses, cameras, and more!
Remember to post your photos for discussion, and keep in mind that even a photo that didn't turn out as hoped can be used as a learning tool.
Let's have some fun here!
Dave.

Hi Eddie,
This is going to be great! We'll get to see some excellent watch photos along with some that are not-so-great.
I'm going through my watch photos and looking for some that are out of focus and poorly lit. This way we can discuss how to 'take a better picture'.
Dave.

Hi guys and Welcome David! It's great that I now have a place to post my photos and get some feedback! Although I dont know what any of the photography terminology means I am always open to learning... As long as I dont need a new camera! I am saving all my money for watches remember? Well, here are my latest attempts at taking descent pictures... While they are not too terribly bad for me, they do have some glare on the crystal that I would like to get rid of and they are very lame with no cool backgrounds and very pale looking (perhaps because of the white background ) lol... The "light box" a.k.a. 'shopping bag' seems to be doing a fairly descent job of difusing light as it is, so I am going to build one of the same material that actually allows me to put crap inside of it as background and props. Also, anyone have any experience taking pictures through Night Vision and / or under red lights? Any feedback appreciated! But what I really wanted was to just show my pictures! ;D ;D ;D Looking forward to seeing this new forum grow like the others! Thanks John!

YurRomeo: Your pictures are great! I see what you mean about the glare. That can be a real hassle to deal with. Actually, the only thing besides the glare (which I only see on a couple of your photos), are the two diagonal "lines" in the background. Take a look at this setup (it's the one that John Holbrook uses): jholbrook.proboards33.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1103490141&start=15I bought this exact storage box in order to do my work. It's fantastic and affordable. I think you can fix the glare problem with this type of setup. Also, you will be able to put a smooth background in place. Try it out. Dave.

Thanks for the comments on my pictures! I am really happy someone thinks they are good! Thanks for the link... I had seen this post before. Good idea. However, I would like a setup where I dont need any additional lighting besides for the one I currently have in my ceiling fan (4 x 100W bulbs) that way I dont have to worry about storing extra stuff when I am done... Sorry but I am a bit lazy... The diagonal lines you see are part of my 'Light Box", they are actually the bottom of the shopping bag. LOL... I am working on that though. Will post more pics once the box is complete.

Well, if you don't want to add equipment, you could block the light directly above the watch (perhaps with a small piece of black fabric), and then use a white piece of cardboard on each side of your bag to act as reflectors (to make up for the light you lose on top).
Dave.

The tricky part about that watch is the polished bezel - it's a bugger to get lit evenly without creating glare. The nice thing about using the storage bin set up is you have an instant place to store your lights when your done taking photos! ;D

Sounds like a good idea, but unfortunately I just finished building me a nice light box out of foamboard and thick vellum paper (all the supplies I had at hand) and so far looks promsing... I am really bussy tonight posting some items for sale and might have to wait till tomorrow to try it out. BTW, a great investment opportunity has come up and I think I will jump in with all I have... Meaning all my watches will go so I can scrounge up as much $ to invest on this project as I can. If it works as it should it will pay HUGE dividends ( I am talking 96% return on my initial investment per year for at least four years! )and I will be able to get all my watches back and then some...
