Someone please explain to me how SNBC or Jim Skelton has brought you to this forum. I keep reading that and can't figure it out. I try but I have never heard Jim state anything about WTF on his show. I am hoping people who bought a watch from SNBC is *not* what the contribution Jim/SNBC has given you to get you to come to this site (or any other watch site.) It would be sad if a sales person who talks you into spending money is what got you into this.
I have watched these types of shows for years and while some of the watches were of interest to me and shows entertaining (not too informative.. just a bit), it is not what started me in my watch collecting. Rather always being fascinated by watches I have seen (Pops, Grand Dad's etc) or ones I owned as a child.
I would really like to know why people say Jim/SNBC is what brought them into watch collecting and to this forum?
Just Jack

Jim didn't bring me to this forum. But he did spark my interest in watches. I didn't have a dad/grandad who enjoyed watches, and I am not quite sure how I got into it, but I do know my first memories were stumbling across the watch shows and seeing the enthusiastic demonstrations of watches. Soon I learned to beware of believing every thing uttered, and that there were lots of other places to learn and have fun with watches.
No, it took a few years to find this forum, but I am pretty sure that SNBC got me started.

well, I got to say been around the Invicta Forum here for a while, knew of Jim(very nice fellow) and had no idea there was such a thing as a watch show. my influence has been other owners showing the watches here and talking about them. seeing the photography techniques to show off the different watches here is what has inspired me to own certain watches. JBHII brought me here, not the TV. have a good week folks diver88 ;D

JS and snbc had nothing to do with my watch collecting. however, i enjoy the shows on many levels. i like looking at the watches - and the hosts are a riot, love 'em or hate 'em.

I found this forum on my own. HAve been collecting watches for a long time. A lot of newer members came over from another forum after a dustup when the ownership there called Jim a freeloader. I will not go any further than that on the subject.
TV networks can perhaps help get a person interested in anything they sell if the party buying likes it. Getting that interested party to a BBS is a different story. That is something a person has to find by trial and error.

JS absolutely got me interested in watches. I've posted about this before. I came across a show and liked the watch and heard him talk about it for 15 minutes...At that time, EVERYTHING he said about the watch interested me and was a learning experience. I watch the shows now out of curiosity and entertainment and a purchase now and then. He did not lead me to WTF.

I wouldn't classify myself as a "collector" yet. I have always been a cheap Timex kinda guy. For years the high end automatics have always fascinated me. To many other "toys" always put them lower on the wish list. I found Invicta while channel surfing on SNBC. The first few shows Jim wasn't even on. It was the price of the Invicta's and curiosity about the company itself that got me interested. I found this Forum while searching the internet for all things Invicta.

I would really like to know why people say Jim/SNBC is what brought them into watch collecting and to this forum? Just Jack As for myself, Jim was directly responsible in "kicking off" a (more or less) dormant interest in watches about a year and a half ago. I happened to run across a late night show of his where he was on with Daniel Mink of Renato and they were showing and talking about the original Beasts. That watch really sang to me and I bought one. I was completely hooked on the shows from that point forward and hardly ever missed another one. Once my Renato Beast arrived, I ended up doing some web searches and ran across another forum where Jim was a member. I decided to join that forum and having Jim there as a contributing member was one of the major reasons I joined. He is also one of the main reasons I ended up joining over here (along with Nayth). I personally think it is more of being star struck for most of you because Jim has posted on the board. So you tend to lend him Kudos for turning you onto watch collecting. However, I still have not seen anything that resembles anything close to being a reason that Jim was influential. But.. to each his/her own as at least it feeds Jim's ego a bit. J/K Just Jack

I was into watches long before SNBC, before I even ran into the watch shows on SNBC, I watched a vintage watch show on a local station that sold vintage luxury brands such as PP, VC, Piagets, Rolex AP, JLC etc the host of the show knew what they were talking about, and I learned quite a lot about watches especially regarding market prices, it was also a period of time when automatics were making a comeback and this show offered great prices, about seven years ago this show went off the air, so I turned my attention to SNBC with Tim Temple, and another watch show with the watch commander although the watches they offered were modern and lower tier watches I still watched just for curiosity sake. As of late I almost have to force myself to watch Jim Skelton on SNBC because they carry the same rotation of watches without much variation, same old Croton, Invicta, Adroid, Renato and SWI, which carries its own brands, which I have to say honestly none of these brands offered excite me.

Just Jack Yes, Jim did point me at this forum along with Nayth (Bruce). I am not sure what "other one" you are talking about...the "other" forum? If you were looking there, you won't find anything. Jim is nice enough to communicate with me privately and that is when he mentioned this place. As for Jim's help, I can directly credit Jim with the purchase of my Philip Admirale, Invicta (rose gold) Quinotaur Russian Diver, Invicta SA III chrono, white onyx dial Wildebeast, Host Pick T-Rex and numerous other watches that I consider to be great purchases and some of my favorites in my collection. Fortunately for me, Jim has communicated with me on a regular basis and I have been able to get specific questions about watches answered and solicit personal recommendations when it came down to making decisions between a couple of different watches. The other forum(s) is the PMWF and BDWF
Looks like you are a TV watch person. Nice to support Jim and the rest of SNBC. No wonder they are your friends... LOL J/K
At least SNBC is entertaining versus Shop@home's shows. China China China. Can anyone say Chinese movement 10 times fast LOL
I wish I knew a person I thought was a friend but my car salesman does not leave me in awe, just gives me a line on why I should buy the vehicle. LOL
