Might as well add my 2 cents. A watch dealer whom I respect greatly recommends not using a winder because he believes it causes premature wearing of the movement. His recommendation, for those who have a bunch of watches and therefore do not wear each one consistently or very often, is to manually wind the watches every month or so to spread the lubricants. This has worked well for me even with old (100 yr. +) pocket watches. Give 'em a few cranks now and then and let them run down over the next day or so.
