While I'll wear it to many places, I won't wear it everywhere. There are certain situations it's not appropriate for me to wear it in or at.

I agree with Scott D.
My wife is a good example - she's a Sports Medicine Doc and has to cover a lot of athletic events involving high-school and college-age people. She doesn't want to attract too much undue attention to herself (the BIG shiny black Lexus does a good job of it), so she leaves the Lady DJ at home for these circumstances. You never know what these crazy kids are capable of!!!!

There's also alot of people who (wrongly) think if you have a Rolex you're rolling in the money. As we know this is just not true, it's a matter of what's important, what everyone wants & how they prioritize or budget. Some people save for a long time to get the watch they want and some will buy it & never think about the cost. There's a very wide range of demographics for Rolex owners.
But there is still that perception that if you have something extravagant & expensive (and Rolex is probably perceived very high on this invisible list) you have lots of money and don't "need" any more. I do some business with people that fall into this category, and will never wear my Rolex, or any high end watch in those circumstances. To do so would only make my life more difficult. And the same reason I drive the truck & not the car to those dealings.

I put most places. Not so much a safety issue in this sense; but, the hassle with airline security. I am not a fan of placing my valuables in my bags and then watching them disappear under the X-ray, as I get jammed up b/c the person in front of me gets stopped. 90% of the time, you can see your bags; but, not always. To me, it's not worth the risk w/ my watch, or other electronic items.

Timefinder, I have been to every major airport in the US and I worried about the same thing when one day a TSA agent pulled me to the side and whispered in my ear that there is nothing in a Rolex that would set off a magnetometer. He told me I could keep it on and never have a problem. Since then I never take it off when I go through security and have never set off a detector.

Tigeranteater - I've NEVER taken off a watch to go through a metal detector, and was never asked to do so either. Good practice not to let it go, like you've said. I agree!

I fly all the time and I always remove my watch. I never even thought to leave it on. I'll do it on my next trip.

I typically wear it everywhere. I have not traveled to any third world countries, so I have not really been in a place where I had to think twice. There are times when I do cover it up under a shirt sleeve when I am in poor neighborhoods.
I did have my watch (Seiko) stolen many years ago when armed thugs followed us to a hotel room. Subsequently, I am conscious of my surroundings....

Good information. I typically fly eight to ten times per year and have always put the Rolex, with my money clip and other metallic pocket stuff, in something like a jacket pocket. Everything goes in the tray and I try to keep my eyes on it, or the NTSB personnel. I'll run the gauntlet the next time and see if any alarms go off.

I always wear a Rolex when I travel. I think it gains you a little respect when you deal with hotel personnel (front desk, concierge, etc.) and other places, plus I consider it as a source of emergency cash, i.e. if for some reason you loose all your cash and credit cards while in a foreign land, you can easily pawn it I agree with the other comment of wearing it to most places but certainly not all. I think that's one reason I tell my wife why I have other watches.

I'll try that next time I do some domestic traveling. However, there are airports in some Asian countries that tell you to take every metal thing off your body before you walk through the detector. Since I always carry a small messenger bag whenever I travel, I make sure I secure my watch in a zippered compartment and put it on the belt just before I go thru the detector.

Whilst I do wear my Rolex most of the time, there are situations where I don't wear it, whether it is when playing golf, going to the gym or going out drinking with the lads from the football (Soccer) team. (Although the latter doesn't happen too often these days ;D)
I do have another watch which is around 10yrs old which is my usual beater on these occasions.
After all, I bought my SD to wear, not sit in the darkness of the safe. As the SD isn't too flash and doesn't attract the attention as some other watches out there, I wear it as my daily watch for most occasions.
