Hey guys,
I was down in Orlando this past week and spend much time scouring the local watch shops. Decided since the Atlanta dealer is such a drive away from my house, I decided to take advantage of being near the Orlando dealer and stopped in.
It was a small little shop in Winter Park, Orlando Watch Co. is the name of the dealer. You know, one of those small, old-style downtown stores with coffee shops, bistro's and brick streets where almost all stores are family run. Love those kind of shopping areas.
Once I stepped in, I saw the Ball display counter up front and strolled over. This was my first up-close with the watches. Hoping to see the Night Train, they didn't have it yet, so tried on the Fireman to get a feel for the size. Once on, it felt good! Very good fit & feel. Tried on several other models too, including the Engineer Hydrocarbon and a Limited Edition Conductor Arabic. Neither of these watches impressed me in print, but on the wrist I was happily surprised at how much I liked them. I definitely give my first encounter a 2 thumbs up! Unfortunately, I didn't leave with anything as I really want to see the Night Train first, but I was tempted. Can't wait to see the Night Train.
Now, I don't know if all Ball dealers are smaller, more "personal" shops like this one. But if so, I really like that. The guys at Orlando Watch Co. (Scott & Carissa) were absolutely fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable & obviously passionate about watches. It was very refreshing to go to a watch store where the people there actually know more about watches than just what's printed in the sales material. I think I spend the better part of an hour or more there talking with them while browsing the Balls and jut talking watches in general. They also do repairs / refinishing, and showed me some of the more recent works. Some pieces were 35 years old or more, and looked showroom fresh. If you're ever in Orlando and want to check out some watches, I definitely recommend stopping in there. I know I will the next time I'm in Orlando. I may even pack a lunch and make it a full day ;D
Anyways, just wanted to share the 1st Ball Watch experience. if you haven't seen one yet, it's worth stopping in a local dealer!
