Zinster only has eyes for Omega. He's very loyal. Unlike the rest of us who are, well, watch sluts!

Well, let me see. A Speedy 3570.50 is around $3,000, allowing say 20% discount, it's on one's wrist for $2,400. I'll set the Seiko or Orient at a reserve of $2,700, giving anyone who wishes one, a reasonable discount since it's BNIB after all, buy the Omega with the proceeds after listing and Paypal fees and place the balance in the poor box before mass. Cheers amigos ZIN

I couldn't vote. To me they are so similar that I would be happy with either. I vote 1/2 vote for each!

Well, I'm catching up on some old polls at KW's request, and on this one I have to go with the Seiko. Both are great watches, but I think Seiko did a more elegant job at contrasting the brushed areas with the highly polished surfaces. I also prefer Seiko's ever-so-slightly indented crown, versus Orient's, which just looks "stuck on".

I see it as a great dress/anytime watch, unpretentious yet very smart looking. I really like my Seiko divers, but this Grand Seiko will be my next watch, its “Perfect”

I saw and wore the Orient today in Sakuraya in Shibuya. It is incredible. I have also seen the Seiko, but it doesn't do it for me in the same way. When you have had both watches on your wrist, the Orient is clearly the more 'heartfelt' of the two, and just looks better in real life. Well...that's how I found it, anyway. The bracelet is finished really well, the deployant is great and the links have these cool screws in the back which, presumably, allow you to adjust the length easily.
I have been considering buying this watch all afternoon, but the price tag is a little scary for something that may not hold its value. What do others think about these things in the long term?

thebunnyhauntsme,
Even if it becomes a desirable collectible in 20 years time, when you take inflation into account you still lose money. You have to buy it because that it YOUR watch. Your being in Japan might allow you to see a different market than us in the US and Europe.
Is sounds like the Orient has captured your attention so that is the one to get. I have no doubt that the Orient will function well for the next 50 years with proper servicing. These high end pieces are good pretty much forever with servicing. Over the long term (10, 20, 30 years), I don't see you losing much if anything. In ten years that watch new will be 20-40% more expensive at the minimum with inflation. Your pre-loved model will take the immediate hit of being used, but then flatten out in a few years and potentially appreciate in value if the new one's cost increases.
Also, I believe the world of WIS is waking up to Royal Orient (and to a larger extend Grand Seiko). More enthusiasts means more demand. You very well might list your watch in 10 years and find people in Brazil, China, or Dubai bidding for it. You never know, which is why I believe it is important to first and foremost love the watch.
