Because we have so many great new members since this poll began, and the outcome is so close, I thought I would bump and run this one more time before putting it to rest! JIM, Kirk, markdl, Mtech, Pete, and Badboy already voted on this; looking for some new WIS votes from bpajwhite, Pauly, ricardsala, nephlim, Ben, Watch Dawg, bestak, eddiea....... It's close to election time, so let's vote! The Best Of The Best Vs. The Best Of The Best But which is the best? Each model is a flagship model of the manufacturer. Each model has an identical list price of 367,500 Yen (about $3,116.63 USD) The choice is yours (No, I'm not buying)! Contender#1 - GRAND SEIKO SBGR001daily rate - 3 seconds to + 5 seconds Contender#2 - ROYAL ORIENT WE0021JAdaily rate - 4 seconds to + 6 seconds [glow=red,2,300]Pictures and list prices from Watch-Tanaka[/glow]Remember: You MUST buy one of the watches, or give back the money! ;D

I'll take Door Number Three, Monty. Oops! There is no Door Number Three. Too bad. I was hoping it hid the Seiko Spring Drive, which is one of the watches I truly lust after. Handmade, limited production, innovation and fabulous design. These two are really, really nice. I'd be proud to own 'em I think. Now these are Japanese watches I can sink my teeth into. They are both very tempting, indeed. But for the money, it's Spring Drive all the way for me. Unless we're talking an even up trade for a slightly used OM.

I lust for the Spring Drive as well, but that one cost a bit more than 367,500 Yen! As per above conditions, you did not vote, so you must return your gift of 367,500 Yen at once!

Grand Seiko every day of the week, of course I'd have to have the black dial. I never been drawn to the Orient line, nice but not for me.

Well Boscoe there is a door number 3 and behind it is a Invicta Grand Diver complete with a tiny tiny date window............Ding ding ding you win Boscoe and it all yours.

I picked the Orient because of the exhibition back...

Thanks, but I'll pass on the Grand Diver. Too big and it has that hideous helmet head on the dial and case. All kidding aside (though I'm not kidding about the Diver), these two look like wonderful watches. I've never held or eyeballed a high-end Japanese watch. I imagine the fit, finish and quality is incredible since both companies do amazing jobs with their budget watches. If I had to pick, I'd go with the Seiko... but they're BOTH Seikos. So you figure it out. Too tough to call.

They are NOT both Seiko's!!!
Seiko-Epson Printer Division owns 52% of Orient stock, but the design, production, and management are totally seperate companies!!! Although Seiko-Epson has a vested interest in Orient, the Orient-Watch Co. is truely left to fly on their own! Seperate designers! Seperate plants! Seperate management! Seiko-Epson rescued Orient just as Orient almost went bankrupt.

I guess I'd go with the Grand Seiko since I'm more familiar with the brand. Both are great looking watches, but a bit old-fashioned for a hip, young, cat- daddy like myself. Now if they were platinum and 42-46 mm, that would be more like it.

Yes, KW I just voted. Been busy working on my 2 decks.
Orient all the way. I am on a Orient kick right now, since last January I have 3 of them from the low price $ 60 specials to the $ 350 GMT Sapphire World timer. They all keep excellent time - far better than my Seiko OM, and are very well made, even the cheap ones.
A display back is the added touch, but even if it was a solid back I'd reward Orient with my $ CDN for the fact that they give all their customers - rich or poor- a great timepiece. It's weird how the Seiko majority ownership of Orient has not forced Orient to adopt the Seiko movements for cost efficiencies, but IMO Seiko would do better to adopt Orient movements instead !!! ha ha flame away!! Thanks for the post KW, you are bringing good discussion to this forum.

Thanks Mtech, and it's too bad Orient does not adopt LumiBrite® for their lower end watches - only a cat could read their dials in the dark!
