Hi there everyone. This is my first visit to the forum and I really need some help. I have been given an ?? 'ORIS' ?? watch in lieu of a debt. Though delighted of course I immediately began to question if the watch is authentic for various reasons and not because of the lack of paperwork for I know this gentleman and his lack of attention to these things does not surprise me. I am no expert in the more modern watch field and my hobby is very much vintage watches and jewellery. I have visited all the ORIS sites available and cannot find this model. Yes, there are similar ones but nothing identical and I view this with a sense of foreboding. However, it is not new (I think this gentleman has owned it for at least 4 - 5 years) and most of the sites are dedicated to new models. I even went onto Ebay half expecting to see scores of them at ridiculously low prices claiming to be authentic. But again, I can find nothing.
Now for the areas over which I am concerned.
1. The stainless steel strap is not signed ORIS.
2. The Days of the Week field is at 9 o'clock and the 24 hour field is at 3 o'clock. All other models I have looked at appear to be the other way round.
3. The crown is not signed.
Having said all, it is worth mentioning that this does look and feel good It is of obvious quality, feels very heavy in the hand, the glass back shows the movement signed ORIS and other things feel okay. So guys, can you help me out here? If it's not authentic, it's not the end of the world. If it is, well great. I got a bit of a bargain I think. I just need to know. I will upload some pics of the watch and hopefully they will appear okay.

Hello closeadm To upload pictures, you need first to register with a picture host such as photobucket - www.photobucket.com. Registration is free. Following registration, you can then upload pics from your computer to photobucket. 1. Do this by using the "browse" facility to locate the pic, then click submit to upload to photobucket 2. Copy the image tag ( 3rd option under the pic on your photobucket page ) and paste this tag in the body of your text Piece of cake  Best wishes ZIN |

Also, I never gave you any specific details on the watch. It is an all stainless steel Moonphase signed Oris automatic and Swiss Made on the white or near white dial. It has 3 displays for Days of Week at 9 oclock, Date display at 3 o'clock (I think I told you wrong before) with only odd dates showingand the 24 hour display at 6 0'clock with even hours showing. It has silver coloured number spear with a cut off double spear at the 12 mark and a short cut off one at the 3, 6 & 9 mark. The silver coloured hands have a luminous inlay. Behind each number there is a luminous dot. The dial has a raised textured patterned finish. The back rim of the watch is signed ORIS , All Stainless Steel, Water Resistant, 23 - 7068. the glass back reveals a silver metal movement. the bit that moves to and fro (sorry for my ignorance) has a sunburst effect and is signed Oris, 674, 25 Jewels, and Swiss Made. There is also a little depressed button at each side presumably to manage to dial displays. I think that will be all the relevant details. I have not unscrewed the back as I do not want to damage it. It's a bit more technical than taking of a snap on casing on a vintage watch:). Look froward to hearing from you.

I agree. It's is indeed a lovely dial. If it's a fake, then someone has done their job well:) I have lots more pic's available if required. I just want to say thank you for taking the time over this as I know you must be very busy. Look forward to hearing from you when you have time (pardon the pun).

OK closeadm My initial thoughts are that it's an Oris Artelier Complication, automatic movement with moonphase at 12 o'clock. Oris made so many watches and this one is now out of production. What I have been able to dig up about the 674 movement is that it is " Chronograph Cal. Valjoux 7750, O 30.00 mm, 13 1/4''', automatic winding, ball bearing, 25 jewels, Incabloc, 28?800 A/h, 4 Hz, power-reserve 42 h, fine timing device and stop-second, centre hands for hours, minutes and chronograph 1/5 sec., 3 subsidiary dials for contineous seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours counter, date or day/date window, date and day corrector. Initial production 1977 ." Of course you watch is a later version with different subdials and no chronograph. The water resistance should be 30m which is 100ft. Hello Zin. What can I say? You found that information within an hour or so and I have researched for 3/4 weeks and was not able to come up with anything. You have given this a lot of attention today and I am so very grateful. I was a wee bit wary of wasting your time. So thanks ever so much for this vauable information. I understand it's your intial thoughts and in no way validates what I have in front of me. But getting the bigger picture of the watch as whole is invaluable. Thank you also for taking the time to email the Forum Moderator for his opinion. I feel a wee bit more comfortable about it now. Being so used to dealing with vintage watches, this has been a bit of a change. You know, I know a good bit about pre 1950's ORIS watches, the models, designs, Art deco (my favourite) etc. It seems daft not to know more about the modern ones also. Nut now I do thanks to you. My guess is the watch is original - except for one troublesome (?) aspect. Oris now uses a signature red rotor. However, that may be a relatively recent (last couple years) thing and your watch may predate that switch. Not expert enough to answer that issue.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my enquiry. As to the Red Rotor, I believe my watch is pre 2002 when Oris used the Silver rotors. And apparently before 1998, they used gold. I read this somewhere and it may actually been on this site or similar. I am pleased to hear your thoughts on the watch as I am very much ignorant in this field (unless it's vintage and even then, not so much the technical,more the aesthetics). Zin has been a great help today and went out of his way to gather some important information. You are obviously a very friendly bunch of people and although I was wary initially of aproaching the forum, I'm so glad I did.
