(I'm no expert...)
Just a guess, but I think my watch dial appears more blue than purple is because I take my indoor photos utilizing a filtered florescent light. When I rely upon a traditional household light bulb, the resultant picture has quite a bit of yellow in it and causes the blue to have a slight tinge of purple.

i have noticed this when looking at pics online i think the watches look best on TV or in person
i often wonder what is the material of the dials is it a steel thingy that is electro plated some type of plastic they only tell us when its MOP or onyx or something.

yes Mr Catbird, I just purchased some 6500K daylight temperature fluorescent 100 w equivalent bulbs for picture taking to remove that color you speak of. that should help with capturing the correct colors.... I hope diver88 ;D

diver88 (and all) -
I realize I'm digressing OT here, but I happened to notice that Wal-Mart has a reasonably priced ($50) portable light box kit that includes two small high intensity lights and small tripod.
It looks like it would work great for watch/jewelry/coins, etc. picture taking.

I just received my first "blue dial" and I have to say it looks wonderful While it is pictured here there is no way to take a picture of every hue it gives off. Basically, it is Cobalt Blue. That is the bezel and the dial. The bezel stays constant and outside in bright light the dial does also. However, and this is a plus and not a minus, angle of view and artificial light does play some with the dial face. It can move from blue to almost black including, yes some purple hue. But I find that one of the more attractive things about this. So to answer your question, yes, it is blue and if blue is what you are looking for you will like it but, yes, it is more than blue. Much more!

Depends on the watch. My Ocean Ghost twinkles between blue and blueish purple in certain spots. Overall its a nice effect and looks awesome on the watch.

My 8928CE goes from looking blue to purple depending on the light. I think it has something to do with the gold because any photo of a blue dial w/o gold looks blue to me.
@auto and bender, nice pics guys. the jubilee bracelet looks cool.

I always liked the blue dial look. I do have other color faced watches, but I always return to the blue.
