To really appreciate this story, you have to hear the ordeal from the begining.

For about a month, I've been working directly with Omega on trying to secure a classic Bond Seamaster...the discontinued, Caliber 1120 based model, and not the Co-Axial version. And at the end of a lot of mix ups and foibles, I had been told that one was available for purchase and was being shipped. The day it was to arrived, I called my contact and inquired why it hadn't arrived. After a few hours I got a call back and was told "we're now completely out of stock on that model....would you like to buy the Co-Axial version instead?"

So I gave up on the dream of re-aquiring a classic Bond Seamaster. That was about two weeks ago...

So today I'm in my office and I'm handed this box that was shipped to the office from Swatch Group USA. Not an entirely unique occurance as they send me watches for review in magazines, and I was expecting a watch to come...just not until next week! So I opened the shipping box and saw a white Omega outer box..."hunh....what the heck is this? I wasn't expecting anything from Omega?!"

Turns out they found one more classic Bond!!! So I now have what may be the last, if certainly not one of the last classic Bond Seamasters ever produced.

Honestly, beyond the fact that I really do like this watch better than the co-axial version, the fact that it could be a classic for Omega is a big reason for the purchase.

I honestly think that in 10-15 years Omega fans will appreciate this watch the way a Rolex 1680 Submariner is coveted today.

Hey Zin, maybe you should slaughter the whole herd. Just so our members do not lose heart...

I just made ONE phone call and found an original Seamaster from a local AD here in the Big D...so there are still some around. Problem is he wants $2150 less maybe 5%.

Sorry, but I, for one, do not think the watch rates that price. I would much prefer picking up a pre-loved Great White for $1400 (before discontinuation $1200 was common).

Don't want to bust any bubbles but I do think that the members should know that with some effort, you can still find an original Bond Seamaster. But it is, indeed, true that they are becoming very scarce.

I believe there's still quite a few of the 2531.80 Bond SMPs laying around in jewelers' display cases across the nation. An AD near me still had one in her case as of a month ago. A couple of weeks ago I had an opportunity to mail order one for 50% off retail from an AD in Cleveland who was dumping Omega, but instead chose an Aqua Terra I had been coveting for a while.
