I think movements in modern and newer watches are more robust and will put up with the heavy duty experience better than older examples. I don't think you should subject your watches to undue stress so it would be best to know what the limitations on a particular instrument are. If you were a pilot I imagine you wouldn't perform aerobatics in a well-preserved WW1 biplane as you would a modern jet fighter.
