Great pics mike , IMHO Rolex dropped the ball moving to the smaller markers with gold surrounds!, "Guess" they've realised too!!!!! with the introduction of new models featuring the maxi dial steve You know Steve, it's interesting you say that. A lot of collectors feel Rolex first made the move to a "tough luxury" brand from a pure "tool watch" concept with the introduction of the gloss/WG surround dials in the mid 80s. Many of these collectors that wouldn't dream of having an example with the smaller markers are warming to the maxi-dial versions (and the new Milgauss) as they see these pieces going "back to the future" If we compare the two there's a lot of similarity,

Mike... awesome as usual. Now you need to get a James Bond Sub into your collection... to finish it. Thanks JP! To be honest there's two that would make me happy (that'll change if/when the sub is updated LOL!), a 5508 and a 5512. Both, in their own way, speak to a special time in Rolex's history. That would close the books for me in the Sub line---finding a nice example is really getting hard, and the pricing!!!

Tritium on matt-black for me every time, not that i own one yet! WG surrounds with Tritium like on my 1991 GMT II is a nice compromise, for some reason lately i have found myself going cold on the Maxi-Dial and i don't know why! Probably something to do with proportion and balance, or partial obsession-triggered lunacy! LOL! :-)
