OK Neil, this is getting very confusing! I have Riki Watanabe listed as an Alba model line. Check out this page and tell me that you don't get the same impression. www.alba.jp/

No problem - they don't exactly make it easy to figure out. First, read this: Riki Watanabe and Seiko Watch Corp.(Sorry - I couldn't post the translated link for some reason.) Then look at these: Riki StoolCeiling MobileMy point is that Riki Watanabe is an independent designer who has a business outside of the watch industry. (Just like Issey Miyake, Anna Sui, and Agnes B.) Seiko (or ALBA) is making the watches, but the design and marketing is a collaboration.

Well Neil, despite this wealth of information you provided about Riki Watanabe being a separate entity, and this great joint business venture with Seiko Corp., I still think it's place in my table is correct. Riki Watanabe is still being considered one of Alba's many model lines even if this particular one is a collaboration with an outside fashion designer. Then how about the Orient Watch Co.? Seiko owns 52% of their stock. Can Orient be considered an independant sub-division of Seiko just like Alba? Then I must deal with these names you submitted; they must go in one of the three color catagories I created! ANNA SUI NOOKA ISSEY MIYAKE TSUMORI CHISATO ALESSI CACHAREL APPLETIMEI still have not found the Seiko connection with agnès b. This is a fine mess you've gotten us in to!!! BTW, I'm willing to add another color catagory; wanna help? ;D

Sure - the category would be "Collaborations", and while you're at it, you should add Giugiaro, because that was the same setup. The point you're missing is this: Credor is a Seiko brand, since Seiko designs, builds, and markets the watches. ALBA is a subsidiary, because they design their watches, build them with Seiko materials, and share in the marketing. Orient is a separate company, because they design, build, and market their watches with little or no help from Seiko Watch Company at all. Riki (and Issey, and Agnes, and Anna) are collaborators, because they design the watches, have Seiko build them, and then market them with their name attached. The key is that Seiko does not design these watches - independent professional designers do. That's why, regardless of the company that builds them, they are always marketed with the designer's name. Does that make it easier to set up your categories?

Because although he is a designer, he does not have a web presence like Issey Miyake and the others. Watanabe-san is more of a freelance artist - you can find his individual designs on store websites, but he doesn't have a website or store of his own to sell his products. ALBA takes care of this by marketing the watches under their own umbrella.

i saw Pulsar on the list what about Pulsar Spoon i think in Japan it is just called Spoon so does that qualify? Welcome to our forum chaibill! In this case, "Spoon" is really just a model. Depending on marketing, I have seen this model referred to as just Spoon, Pulsar Spoon, Seiko Spoon, Alba Spoon.... I'm in the mood for a hot bowl of soup now! I hope to see you posting here often!
