Somebody talk me out of this one... While looking at "cheap" watches I accidentally found a Navitimer 50th Anniversary edition in an AD today in a "sale", 1/3 off. It's the "reverse video" version (silver dial, black subdials) with the brushed steel bracelet. I think the brushed look looks so much nicer than the "too shiny" look of most current Navitimers. If it had been the "normal" colour scheme version I'd have probably given in then and there, as it is I've left it overnight to think about it.

That piece happens to be one of the most sought after modern Navi's. It has held it's fair preowned value as well and better than most other dis-continued models. As for the silvered dial with black subs, it can be a stunner. Whether on the brushed Navi bracelet or black leather, it is a classic. NOS from an AD with full two year factory warranty at a third off? Jump on it or else tell me where it is. Cheers, Ron PS. For an idea of how good silver dial/black subs can be, check out my flyback Cosmo....

Pintglass, I'm sorry to say, you failed first.. You came to this group to talk you out of a watch?!?! If you had $100 to either eat for the month or buy a watch, 99 out of 100 here would tell you to buy the watch, and food's overrated anyways. And the 1 who didn't probably would be Boscoe because he needs the food for his foto props.... To assume this group would talk you out of any watch is a failure of logic.. ;D ;D ;D ;D But seriously, I think it's a fantastic deal. If your at all interested or think you'll regret not buying it, buy it. If you change your mind, you could probably sell it & come out very close to even. If you're really not sure or don't think you'd miss it, pass on it.. Go back to the AD & see if you still want it like you did the first day.. If so, take a leap assuming it's not a stretch monetarily (I don't go into debt for watches. They're not that important). But if you don't feel the same way you did the first day, pass it up - and send Ron & I the AD info. I may go get it.. ;D

When I said you'd failed, it's because I've already bought it . And so far, I'm very pleased with it.

Hey Pintglass, You'll need to use a photo hosting site. There are many for free but I and many seem to like photobucket.com. They're easy, will resize to a standard default (you want to set it to 800x600 for the best picture posting), and best of all are free. Once you've signed up, you upload the images from your PC to the photobucket site. Once its uploaded, under each of your pictures, you'll see "tags" listed. You want to copy the 4th one, "IMG Code" and just paste that line into your WTF thread. That'll put your picture into the thread. Here's a tutorial thread if you'd like more on it: jholbrook.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=faq&action=display&thread=1096473156Give it a shot, you'll see it's quite easy. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or reply here & we'll help get you going! Looking forward to your pictures!

Apologies for the quality, I'm not very good at getting watches to sit still... or perhaps I need a better lens.

I think I've discovered the secret... indirect lighting. Try this:

The second picture is very good Pintglass. As I'm not familiar with Breitling I was unsure what the watch would look like. Its a stunner. A bit too much text on the dial (plus I haven't a clue what all those measurements are for), but on the whole a nice watch.
p.s. If you don't mind the Rolex forum, check out any photos by Hannes. He won the mast head competition and his photos are superb.

Hey pintglass, Many congratulations What an absolute beauty, a great find and a bargain as well. How could you have had second thoughts on buying this? Fantastic second photo, BTW. Cheers, Rick.

Pintglass, I'm with Rick, a great looking watch!! I think you'll be very glad you didn't pass it up (though part of me is wishing you did. Then I could have gotten it! J/K)... So, you said it is a silver dial, but looks to be a raw finished steel dial. Fantastic looking - just stunning. I bet you can't stop looking at it & grinning... ;D Pictures look great too! Look forward to seeing more pictures of that.. Don't think I've seen one here yet. Congrats again! PS - do be sure to post your pictures in the Breitling Gallery Super-Thread

Thanks, everyone. Yes, the dial looks steel. I have no regrets, I really like it. I've only found one other site on the entire internet (yes, I've searched everywhere ) with this particular variant of the 50th anniversary so it must be reasonably exclusive. Too much text on the dial , but it's Breitling . Having fiddled with the slide rule a bit, it's actually pretty intuitive and all the scales are useful. I forgot to mention, I also managed to get a free brown leather strap as well. I'm not sure how much these go for but a fair few pennies. Just holding up the strap, I think the brown leather will go really well so I'm almost looking forward to winter and giving it a try.
