This just arrived today. It's a very handsome watch. I actually prefer it to my other Japanese Pro Diver (8928 w/Blue Dial). Unfortunately, I left that one at home so I can't show you side-by-side comparisons.
This watch is a Limited Edition Model 3479 - engraved on the case back along with the words Limited Edition. Limited Edition is also engraved on the crown side of the case.
According to the ShopNBC pitch, there were only 1000 watches with this blue carbon fiber dial manufactured. There also 1000 with a Silver Carbon Fiber and 1000 with a Black Carbon fiber. The cases are numbered on the back under the Invicta logo. Mine is 543 of 1000. (Thanks to new WTF member Nick for pointing this out to me since I missed it - even with my glasses. This is exceptional for $128 as an OTV - now $228 with only black available).
Here are my impressions:
The dial is very crisp and has a 3D effect. It is a vibrant Invicta blue. The carbon fiber pattern only shows at certain angles. Otherwise, it looks like a traditional Invicta blue dial with more depth. The markers and hands appear to float under the crystal (more about that later). There are no imperfections - at least to the naked eye - in the allignment and lettering.
Other than the carbon fiber, the biggest difference on this watch face is the hands, numbers and position indicators, which are pure white and lume coated. Both the minute and hour hands have cut-aways to show more of the dial. The hands look like plastic, which reduces the overall feel of the watch. The markers are pure white, too, and very legible.
The dial reads: Pro Diver Automatic, Water Resistant, 200 Meters
Under 6 PM it reads: Japan Movement.
This watch comes with a sapphire crystal, which is a welcome upgrade. It also has a more powerful cyclops lens, ala a Swiss Pro Diver, which is welcome, too. The bezel is typical - a bit tight. But I never twist them anyway. The bracelet, stem and movement are all the usual, too.
However, the back of the case is different. I like it alot. It makes the watch feel very substantial. No display back and very chunky grips for opening the case. It looks more rugged than the backs on my Swiss Pro Divers.
All in all, I'm delighted with this watch. I was prepared to be disappointed and chalk it up to TV hype. But this is the nicest Japanese Pro Diver I own - or have ever seen. It's definitely a keeper.
